Olympiaregion Seefeld … playing in the first division in the ‘Meeting Industry’

In the late 80’s Seefeld was already Austria’s best-known incentive destination after Vienna, a time when the word ‘incentive’ – meaning motivational and educational trips for businesses - was only really understood in certain specialist circles.

For the innovative Seefelders, it seemed quite natural to utilise the worldwide recognition they had achieved from hosting the Winter Olympics and the World Championships in order to maximise their potential as an event destination. Their experience in dealing with large events together with a superb hotel and sporting infrastructure, a central location, excellent traffic connections and the engagement and creativity of the local businesses ensured enormous success for Seefeld in the so-called tourist ‘super league’, the branch of the industry dealing with congresses, conferences and incentives. The list of international firms who have chosen the Olympiaregion Seefeld to host events is worthy of note. A classic example was when VW held the world premiere of their new Beetle here and as a result brought 17,000 dealers and media representatives from all over the world to Seefeld.

Even nowadays, when competition in this sector of the market is getting stronger, meetings of any description are, and will remain, an important part of the tourist success story in the Olympiaregion.

Top locations
Over the years, public event centres and countless seminar rooms in hotels have been established and can cater for anything from 10 to 2000. The centrally located and multi-functional Olympia Sport and Congress Centre has 3 rooms for up to 300 people and in order to be better prepared for the future there are concrete plans afoot to redesign and extend conference facilities. Large events can be held in the WM-Hall which has floor space of 2,200m² and 2,500m². Numerous 4* and 5* hotels offer seminar rooms of varying sizes and all with the most up-to-date equipment. Certain locations, for example the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol in Mösern/Buchen, can cater for up to 400 people in their in-house conference centres.

Suitable background
The impressive natural beauty of the Seefeld high plateau and the surrounding mountains provide a spectacular backdrop for meetings and incentive groups. Specialist agencies and outdoor experts in the region work closely with the customer to help produce the perfect script for the perfect event. It’s important to take a ‘time-out’ from the often intensive conference timetables to help achieve a necessary balance, to encourage a renewed energy and to improve concentration and the vast range of possibilities on offer ensures that the sporting and culinary side-programmes are both unique and memorable for the participants.

Quick to the finish line
In addition to the professionalism of the local hosts and what they can offer, the Olympiaregion also scores points against other international competitors thanks to its central location in the heart of the Alps and its accessibility. The international airport at Munich is less than 2 hours away from and the airport at Innsbruck, with scheduled flight links to most main airports, is within ½ hour’s drive. You can take the train – Seefeld is an inter-city stop – or come by car – there are motorway connections from all 4 points of the compass – the Olympiaregion is quite simply easy to reach.
