WINTER YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES 2012

Seefeld as official “host mountain” for the 2012 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games

The 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held in Innsbruck and Seefeld from 13th – 22nd January 2012.

1,058 athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 and from more than 70 nations will compete in 63 different sporting events. Of those events, the ski jumping, cross-country, Nordic combination and biathlon will be held in Seefeld’s Nordic Centre of Excellence.

Hosting the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games will make Seefeld and Innsbruck  Olympic hosts for the third time, after the 1964 and 1976 games; something to be proud of. Achieving the highest-ever approval rating (84:15) in the history of the International Olympic Committee serves to underline the globally recognised excellence of Seefeld in Tirol as a sporting venue,  as well as its value as a popular destination for tourists from around the world.

The exceptional infrastructure available in the region is perfect for carrying out a large sporting event such as this. Two new ski jumps and a ski roller track were completed in summer 2010 and the biathlon facility built in winter 2009/2010 is of the most up-to-date standard and offers ideal conditions for biathlon events. And it’s not just the infrastructure which gets all the praise, the cross-country facilities have featured in the ADAC ski magazine’s Top 3 on several occasions.

The 2012 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in Seefeld and Innsbruck will be the first youth event of this kind and should be an unforgettable experience for all concerned!
