In 2012, one of the most spectacular Alpine railway lines – the Mittenwaldbahn, which leads from Innsbruck to Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Seefeld and Mittenwald – looks back on 100 years of proud service. To mark the occasion, local towns Seefeld and Scharnitz have got together with other communities along the line, the two railway companies, Österreichische Bundesbahnen and Deutsche Bahn-Regio Süd, and a range of associations to form a project group to work together to orient celebrations to the railway’s centenary. From art exhibitions to guided experience hikes, creative days and of course trips on special historic trains, there’s a highly varied programme being offered for everyone with an interest in the line and its history.
