Scharnitz – Energy from movement and strength
Release the power... sense yourself... Discover limits… Scharnitz
The gate to Tyrol, the gate to the region and the gate to the Karwendel – this is how this small, traditional village on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol presents itself.
It is not only in the summer that the majestic natural backdrop of the nature reserve ‘Alpenpark Karwendel’ attracts people to Scharnitz. In the winter you can also experience nature here better than almost anywhere else. The ‘Mountain’ is certainly the focus of activities: what the Karwendel is to mountain bikers, kayakers and walkers in the summer it also is to skiers in the winter. And the best way to get easily to the centre of the Karwendel is from Scharnitz.
The power of water is ever present here too – after all the source of the Isar River is in the Scharnitz Karwendel and this attracts numerous visitors from near and far who want to draw and store up energy.
For lovers of culture the ‘Porta Claudia’ is a real highlight. To the north of Scharnitz the fortress ‘Porta Claudia’ forms the medieval border to Bavaria together with a complex over the western mountain slope. Vacation without limits is guaranteed in Scharnitz.
