“running & Nordic walking arena” in the Olympiaregion Seefeld

Starter’s orders for the “running & Nordic walking arena”
It won’t just be the fresh air and altitude of the Seefeld plateau that leave sportsmen and women’s hearts beating faster – the 266km trails of the “running & Nordic walking arena” might also have something to do with it.
Running and Nordic walking in fashion
Nordic walking is a fashionable sport and is suitable for experienced outdoor enthusiasts as well as those who are just getting into sporting activities. There are few other sports that offer a comparable effect without risk and are so easy to do. This gentle aerobic sport is particularly easy on the joints and offers, with the exact use of the poles, an excellent way to train the whole body.
Running is also experiencing an increase in interest and becoming a cult sport. Across the globe people are lacing up their running shoes to improve their body and to relax from the stress of everyday life.
At an optimal altitude
The Olympiaregion Seefeld is an ideal training area for all aerobic sports because of its optimal altitude at 1200m – 1400m and is known for being a hotspot for Nordic sports. This is because the air here has somewhat less oxygen in it. The body changes mean that more energy is used; there is more breathing and a higher pulse-rate. Performance is slightly affected. Because of the increased strain on the circulatory system, breathing and the metabolic functions perform better and more economically.
“running & Nordic walking arena” Olympiaregion Seefeld
The “running & Nordic walking arena“ in the Olympiaregion Seefeld was developed in conjunction with expert advice from top athletes in order to help the area to live up to its reputation as a centre for the Nordic sports in the summer as well as in the winter.
From summer 2008 all those who are interested in sport will be able to take advantage of an extensive and well-signposted Nordic walking and running trail network over the whole plateau. Thirty different routes over 266km offer the opportunity to get in the swing and enjoy the wonderful nature on the Seefeld plateau. There are options for beginners and experts in three different grades of difficulty and with varying types of route: interval; agility; regeneration; and mountain running. As well as trails with evocative names such as the “Anglers’ Run”, the “Root Climb” or the “Leutasch Stream Trail”, the “Finnenbahn” in Seefeld is also an option – an ideal training method for co-ordination and conditioning. This doesn’t stop for the winter – in the winter months large sections of the trails are prepared for the use of Nordic walkers and runners.
