Gleirschklamm
Dive into a wild and romantic ravine
Route: Karwendel car park – Kreidebrücke Bridge – Gleirschklamm – Gasthof Amtssäge – Möslalm or Kristenalm, return either on Gleirschstraße or Hochwaldweg
Walking time: approx. 3 hours there and back (walking the Klamm: approx. 1 hour)
Level of difficulty: easy
We turn right at Taxi Mair near the Karwendel car park and follow the road up to the left past the last houses of Scharnitz. At the junction to the Isar trail we keep left and take the trail to the Kreidebrücke Bridge. From there we take the Nederweg path onwards to the entrance to Gleirschklamm. A narrow path leads through this wild, romantic ravine that is only suitable for the experienced (a secure step and a good head for heights required). The path takes us up to Isartalerstraße. Further into the valley there are three possible places to stop: either at the newly opened Gasthof Amtssäge, ten minutes further on at Möslalm, or right from the Amtssäge towards Kristenalm. The return journey is either via Gleirschtalstraße (keep left) or on the Hochwaldweg back to Scharnitz
Seefeld Kneipp Tour
A hike for body, spirit and soul
Route: Wildsee Lake – Englhof – Auland – St. Florian Source – Römerweg – Hermannstal Valley – Triendlsäge – Geigenbühel – Wiesenweg Geigenbühel – Kirchwald – Mühlegg – Möserer Tal Valley – Toni Seelos Ski Jump
Walking time: approx. 3 ½ hours
Level of difficulty: easy
Kneipp therapy forms the basis of the classical healing method of ‘hydrotherapy’ according to the priest Sebastian Kneipp. The patient treads cold water on the spot (one should only tread water if the feet feel warm to begin with). One leg should always be lifted completely out of the water and the foot pointed slightly downwards. After around 30 seconds the patient has a strong sensation of cold in the feet and calves. He should then leave the water and warm the legs up again. Repeat this process several times. After the ‘Kneipp’ treatment just wipe the water off – do not dry – and move around. The treading of water increases circulation and blood flow. It strengthens the veins and is therefore used for the treatment of varicose veins and migraine as well as to strengthen the immune system. A completely natural programme, without any risks or side effects that improves health, daily wellbeing, performance and balance.
Routes are on offer in Olympiaregion Seefeld, signposted ‘Kneipp-Rundwanderweg’ in blue, that include opportunities to build up the immune system with arm and foot baths (walking time: approx. 3 ½ hours):
Right next to the Hotel Seespitz on Wildsee Lake in Seefeld there is a car park from where this walk starts. First there is a pavement along the street towards the tunnel that leads past the hotel. We turn left at the entrance twards the Lake and soon come to a large Kneipp facility on the banks of the Seefeld Wildsee. With the help of information boards on the topic of ‘correct water treatment methods’ and ‘herbalism’, you can start the ‘Kneipping’ adventure in a spacious treading basin and a basin for the arms. Path no. 4 leads on through an idyllic little wood past the deer park to Café Englhof. From there you follow the path to the main road to Auland. Follow this road towards Reith to Haus Kristall. Shortly afterwards, turn off to the left and follow path no. 14, which leads to the St. Florian Kneipp landscape. This is where you can admire the bee nature trail. A forest path leads to a roundabout in front of the Seefeld Hauptschule on Römerweg. Straight ahead, we come to a another roundabout where we continue towards Hermannstalstraße to Seefelderhof on Münchnerstraße. There we go through the railway underpass, turn off at Birkenstüberl and follow the path toward Triendlsäge. We soon reach the small Kneipp landscape at Triendlsäge, which also offers the opportunity for refreshments. A carved fountain at the Waldgasthof in Triendlsäge can be used for Kneipp treatment of the arms. We then take a tarmac road to the junction towards Geigenbühel. Here we cross a small wooden bridge and follow the Wurzelsteig trail (no. 67), which leads back to Seefeld on the Geigenbühel. Once there, we continue on the panorama path with its wonderful view over Seefeld, until we reach the town centre. At the crossroads of Geigenbühelstraße/Panoramaweg we take the alley way into the Wiesenweg at Geigenbühel. We come into the Kirchwald housing estate and cross over to the World Championship tennis halls where we join path no. 2 towards Mösern. As soon as we leave the forest path, we cross the main road and take a beautiful path over the meadows of Möserer Tal Valley toward the Toni Seelos Ski Jump. From the jump, we cross the Sportalm on Gschwandtkopf and come back through the tunnel to the car park at Hotel Seespitz.
Kneipp hike to the Ropferstub´m in Buchen
‘Treading water’ high above the Inntal Valley
Route: Mösern information office – Menthof – Lottensee Lake – Ropferstub´m
Walking time: approx. 1 hour
Level of difficulty: easy
The Ropferstub´m in Buchen is a popular destination for many hikers and cyclists as well as Kneipp enthusiasts, who use the small facilities behind the house to refresh and strengthen the immune system. The village of Mösern is a possible starting point for this hike. By the Mösern information office, we follow the road downhill and take the steep tarmac road past Habhof, to the left towards Menthof. In summer, it is possible to watch hang-gliders in the vicinity of the restaurant as they glide elegantly from a ramp into the Inntal Valley, if the wind conditions are right. We continue along Pirschsteig trail (no. 2) and come through the Mühltalwald, which leads to the tarmac road towards Lottensee as well as to the Wildmoos golf course. Before we reach Lottensee we turn off left toward Sonnplatzl. Path no. 27 then leads to Ropferstub´m, where we have another fantastic view of the Inntal Valley and a small Kneipp facility offers the possibility of refreshment. We take the same path back to the starting point in Mösern.
Leutasch Geisterklamm
Leutasch Geisterklamm – A fascinating adventure trail in the realm of the Spirit of the Gorge.
Route: Hamlet Schanz, old Custom Offica – Klamm - Mittenwald Forest
Walking time: Klammgeistweg: approx. 1 ½ hours, Koboldpfad: approx. 1 hour
Level of difficulty: easy, not suitable for baby buggies, cyclists and dogs
Located on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol the Leutasch Geisterklamm Gorge offers spectacular views over natural landscapes that have come into being over thousands of years. Paths that have been carved directly into the rocks with great precision, and precarious walkways that run up to 40 metres above the water, make the hike through the gorge from Leutasch to Mittenwald in Upper Bavaria possible.
Besides the impressive trail through the gorge, there are 25 thematic stations that offer a lot of education and entertainment: the ‘Leutasch Gorge Spirit’ or the ‘Glacier Goblins’ accompany you on a journey through time to the origins of the gorge: The 3 km ‘Gorge Spirit Path’, which starts when you enter the gorge in Leutasch, runs partly on a 800 m trail high above the gorge. At various stopping points the Spirit of the Gorge tells all sorts of secrets from his realm while bubbling whirlpools, bizarre rock walls and roaring cascades can be admired from far below. The approx. 2 km ‘Goblin Path’ leads from the gorge kiosk in Mittenwald via the stones polished by glaciers into the Leutasch Gorge –here the goblins report on the various stones in the gorge and the power of the glacier during the last Ice Age. It is, of course, also possible to combine both paths into a circular hike.
Important: unfortunately the narrow gorge trail is not suitable for baby buggies or dogs and cycles may not be used on any section of the Spirit Gorge Paths between Leutasch car park and Mittenwald gorge kiosk. Please adhere to these regulations in order to ensure an enjoyable gorge experience for all.
We reach the gorge coming from Seefeld by driving through the hamlet of Weidach toward the hamlet of Gasse. Once there, turn right and drive approx. 9 km straight on until you reach the hamlet of Schanz. On the right hand side you will find a car park (€ 5 fee), and the entrance into the gorge (free of charge).

Water hike to the source of the Isar River
The Isar – the source of this important river is located in the Karwendel
Route: Karwendel car park – Gleirschhöhe – Source of the Isar – Kastenalm
Walking time: approx. 3 hours
Level of difficulty: easy
“A very beautiful river. I have often
listened to it, looked into its eyes, and
I have always learned from it.“
Hermann Hesse
On the way to its confluence with the Danube, the Isar grows into the main Bavarian river. In earlier it times it spread fear and horror when it was in flood, but it also brought luck and blessings for the villages along its banks and the Isar is still a part of the culture and history of the Alpine region today.
At the source of the Isar, near its spring, there are numerous points where the water flows out of the rocks all the year round. The upper Isar is also a popular place for canoe enthusiasts and paddleboat fans. They enjoy the excellent water quality and the wonderful landscape of the nature reserve Alpenpark Karwendel.
Once we arrive in the hamlet of Scharnitz from Seefeld, we take the right fork at the church and come, after approximately one kilometre on the Hinterautalstrasse, to the Isarbrücke bridge at the southern end of the village, where the public Karwendel car parks are available for a fee of € 3 per day. Here we follow Hinterautalstraße until Gleirschhöhe. We then follow the Isar for approximately 9 km as it flows out of the valley, until we come to the source of the Isar, which can be recognized by the small stream bubbling out of the mossy earth. New information boards, a beautiful resting place and a natural trail that leads directly to the first springs are characteristic features of this scientific gem. After a further three kilometres, the Kastenalm provides us with a place to rest. For ambitious hikers this is the starting point for various mountain tours, for example to the Halleranger or Halleranger House (Laliderer Pasture path) (see the hiking map of Olympiaregion Seefeld). The Kastenalm is the starting or finishing point of stage H11 of the Eagle Walk that leads through the whole of Tyrol (information available at your information office).
