Route: Scharnitz / information office – Hinterautalstraße – Teufelslochklamm
Walking time: approx. 1.5 hours
Starting at the information office at the car park Länd (P2), follow the road 'Hinterautalstraße' as far as Taxi Mair. Turn right there and follow the road until you come to a slightly uphill forest track. Follow this trail till you come to the sign-post 'Teufelslochklamm' (devil’s hole ravine), then continue along the well-marked track towards the gorge. From the track, which drops steeply in places, you can see the 'painted devil' on the rock face. A short, steep climb, with safety ropes in place, takes you out of the gorge before you continue along a woodland track to the lower Kreidegraben. From there it’s downhill all the way on the forest track Hochwald, past the Scharnitzer Alm. Follow the Isar river back to Scharnitz either along the Isarsteig track or along the road. Not suitable for pushchairs.
