Route: Scharnitz – Karwendelhaus Alpine hut – Plumsjoch – Plumsjochhütte Alpine hut – Gerntal valley – Achensee lake / Pertisau – Maurach
Starting at the Karwendeltäler (Karwendel Valleys) car park in Scharnitz, you first cycle one kilometre into the valley before turning left onto the forest track to the alpine hut Karwendelhaus. With no more turnoffs, cycle through the Karwendeltal valley to the alpine hut Karwendelhaus (3 hours from Scharnitz). A short ascent follows taking you up to the Hochalmsattel and after a downhill section you reach the Kleine Ahornboden (Little Sycamore Plain). Continue on good forest tracks through the Johannestal valley towards Hinterriß. Once in the Rißtal valley, cycle in towards the valley until you come to the turnoff to Plumsjoch (2 hours from the hut Karwendelhaus). Now an uphill section covering about 500 metres of altitude has to be scaled in order to reach the hut Plumsjochhütte (about 2 hours from the turnoff). After a rest and something to eat and drink, it’s time for the technically challenging downhill section into the Gerntal valley and onto an asphalt road to Pertisau. After cycling through the village, follow a cycle path directly along the Achensee lakeside to the end of the route beside the car park in Maurach-Buchau (1.5 hours from Plumsjoch).
