Route: Scharnitz – Gleirschtal – Alpine Huts Amtssäge, Möslalm or Kristenalm – Scharnitz
Conditions: 10 % asphalt, 90 % gravel, wide forest tracks
A nice, easy-going tour along good forest paths with just one short steep uphill section. Starting in Scharnitz, turn off at the church towards the Karwendeltäler (Karwendel valleys). Go underneath a railway bridge and through two large car parks. Follow the street along to your left and then, further on at the end of the road Hinterautalstraße, keep to your right. Keep going straight ahead through the Hinterautal valley, past the inn Gasthof Wiesenhof and straight on via the Gleirschhöhe to the Gleirschtal valley turnoff after about 4.5 km. After a downhill section, cross the bridge over the river Isar and you come to the long climb, the so-called “Krapfen” from the Isar up into the Gleirschtal valley. Having reached the top of the Gleirschtal hill, cycle past beautiful Alpine meadows until you come to a fork where you can either go right to the Kristenalm hut or carry straight on towards the Amtssäge and Möslalm Alpine restaurants. At the next fork you can either go straight ahead to the hut Amtssäge or keep right and cycle up a short uphill section to the hut Möslalm. There are various mountain hikes starting from here, e.g. up to the Hohe Gleirsch. You can opt to extend your cycle tour from the Möslalm up to the Pfeishütte Alpine hut.
