Route: Scharnitz – Möslalm – Alpine Hut Pfeishütte
Conditions: almost 100 % gravel
Starting at the big car parks, cycle left along the road turning right at the end of the road Hinterautalstraße. Continue straight ahead through the Hinterautal valley, past inn Gasthof Wiesenhof straight on over the Gleirschhöhe until you
come to the Gleirschtal valley turnoff after about 4.5 km. After a downhill section, cross the bridge over the river Isar where the long uphill section starts, the so-called “Krapfen”, from the river Isar up to the Gleirschtal valley. When you
have reached the top of the Gleirschtalanhöhe, you’ll pass lovely mountain pastures as you cycle towards the Amtssäge and Möslalm mountain restaurants. Keep right at the next fork and continue up a slight incline to the hut Möslalm. The climb starting from the hut Möslalm is a hard one on gravel that is very rough in some parts. It takes you through the rugged, picturesque countryside of the high Alpine Samertal valley. Only the very best bikers will manage this ascent – for the others it’s a case of getting off and pushing – but it’s worth it! The traditional, rustic Pfeishütte hut, run by the Alpine Club, is a great place to eat or stay overnight. And it serves as a starting point for lots of breathtaking mountain hikes, e.g. over the Nordkette (Northern chain) ridge to Innsbruck.
