Zugspitze: far-reaching views from two countries
Germany’s highest peak has a fabulous location in the Tyrolean Wetterstein mountains and the summit borders two countries. The bus takes you from Seefeld to the lake, the Eibsee, at Grainau, from where you can get to the top of the Zugspitze (2,962 m) using the funicular and cable cars. There is an impressive 360° panorama restaurant where you can relax and enjoy the breath-taking views of over 400 alpine peaks as well as of “Tyrol’s High Plateau”. Alternatively, there is a pleasant circular hike you can do to the cable car station at Eibsee where you then join the bus for the return journey.
The cable car from the top of the mountain back down to the valley holds 3 world records: the highest steel support (127 m), the greatest difference in altitude between top and bottom stations (2 km) and the world’s longest free-hanging cable section (3.2 km).
