Enchanting Christmas markets, yuletide concerts and the traditions of the Tyrolean advent season – Amid the uniquely captivating atmosphere of a Tyrolean mountain winter, the most magical time of the year becomes an unforgettable experience. Seefeld’s Christmas market, with its rustic wooden huts selling local products and tasty homemade specialities, is a not-to-be-missed attraction. With an accompanying programme of devilish ‘Krampus’ shows, brass-ensembles and choirs performing traditional melodies, along with further magical Christmas-themed treats, such as the ‘angels’ post office’ or horse-drawn carriage rides for children, all visitors, young and old alike, can savour a memorable experience. The Christmas markets in Leutasch, Mösern, Reith and Scharnitz also offer enchanting pre-Christmas delights for locals and visitors alike.

In Leutasch you can experience age-old, almost-forgotten traditions and customs amidst an enchanting atmosphere. Together with the well-known local character ‘Bantl-Hans’ and his wife Monika, you can enjoy a guided chapel walk (every Friday and Saturday at 5.00 pm during the Advent season) and gain a fascinating insight into the history of the 20 chapels in the Leutasch valley. Carrying torches or lanterns, you walk through the magical landscape of the winter evening. Each stop is accompanied by carols and traditional melodies, while the legends and stories behind each chapel are recounted. The walk ends with a visit to a local tavern where you can savour some mouth-watering, traditional home cooking.
Musical Mountain Christmas with the ‘Amigos’

The three-day ‘Musical Mountain Christmas’ event kicks off on 13th December with a welcome evening from 5.00 pm in Seefeld’s Kurpark with a musical performance by the Tyrolean band ‘Ursprung Buam’, followed by a get-together in Seefeld Casino with mulled wine and biscuits. On 14th December visitors to the event can savour an unforgettable musical highlight, namely ‘4 Voices of Musical-Christmas’ with the highly popular and internationally renowned musical stars Maya Hakvoort, Marjan Shaki, Lukas Perman and Ramesch Nair. Taking place the following day, 15th December, likewise in the WM-Halle, is the Christmas Gala with musical entertainment provided by ‘Kastelruther Spatzen’. This year sees the 18th Sport Wedl Cross-Country Ski Opening Event that launches the Nordic sport season. Attracting around 400 participants, it’s the largest cross-country opening event in western Austria. The event features a wide spectrum of treats for cross-country enthusiasts including classic and skating-style courses for beginners and more experienced skiers, video analyses and waxing workshops given by renowned wax manufacturers such as Swix and Toko. And, furthermore, you have the chance to test a wide range of equipment from exhibiting companies including Atomic, Exel, Salomon and Fischer.

41st European Senior Open

Between 6th and 21st January 2017 the WM-Halle in Seefeld is the venue of the 41st International European Senior Tennis Open. Some 600 participants from all over the world aged between 35 and 85 will be taking part in this championship contest, the largest of its kind in Europe. The traditional Tennis Ball with live music and a ceremony to honour long-time participants forms the social highlight of the two-week tennis event.
Seefeld Snow Festival

The restaurateurs from Seefeld’s pedestrian area offer a slightly earlier-than-usual invitation to the annual Snow Festival on 14th January 2017. Visitors can enjoy delectable drinks at the snow bars and savour mouth-watering culinary treats amidst a unique feel-good atmosphere. And it goes without saying that the traditional snow figures will also be on display. As every year the snow sculptures are all based on a particular theme and can be marvelled at throughout the pedestrian area. The Snow Festival is, for the first time, being held as part of a major sport event, namely the Kaiser Maximilian Lauf cross-country ski race. Carving students from Oberammergau, Garmisch and Berchtesgaden will be transforming their creative ideas into works of icy art up to 3 metres high! On Thursday 12th January at 5.00 pm, before the start of the Snow Festival, guided walks to the figures in Leutasch and Seefeld are available during which the carving students and their teachers offer those interested a fascinating insight into their artistic practices. On 14th January the Snow Festival kicks off at 2.00 pm with a programme of activitiesfor children. The evening festivities get underway at 7.00 pm with an après-ski party with live music and the spectacular ‘Helmnot Parade’. Kaiser Maximilian Lauf cross-country ski race

Following its successful debut with perfect snow conditions, the Olympiaregion Seefeld will be hosting the VISMA SKI CLASSIC race for professionals and amateurs once again in 2017. Set to take place on 14th and 15th January 2017, the 2nd Kaiser Maximilian Lauf race in Seefeld will offer a superlative cross-country ski event of the highest sporting calibre here in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps. On Saturday, 14th January 2017, the first group of athletes take part in the classic-style contest, while Sunday, 15th January sees the turn of the skaters. The Nordic Combination is being extended by the highlight of the season! This sporting event highlight underlines even further the Olympiaregion’s high level of competence in the field of Nordic sports. Over 10,000 spectators will be rooting for their favourites when the world’s Nordic Combined elite battle it out here in Seefeld. During the nail-biting competitions for the coveted places on the winners’ rostrum, the Casino Arena will be transformed into a seething cauldron of excitement with spectators enjoying an up-close experience of both the jumps from the Toni Seelos Olympic ski jump and the cross-country skiing disciplines. More than 2,000 athletes are expected to flock to the Leutasch valley to take part in the 2017 Int. Ganghoferlauf - the oldest cross-country marathon in Tyrol. Athletes can choose from four different disciplines: 20 km or 42 km skating-style and 25 km or 50 km classic-style. The classic-style disciplines (25 and 50 km) and the Mini-Ganghoferlauf race for children will, for the second time, be taking place on Saturday. Sunday is reserved for the skating-style races. Challenging routes and breathtakingly beautiful scenery are guaranteed for all! During the Mini-Ganghofer race, fun and excitement for young cross-country ski enthusiasts, from toddlers to teenagers, are the order of the day. The competition is accompanied by a fantastic programme of events and activities including waxing services, equipment testing and free admission to the Erlebniswelt Alpenbad leisure pool complex in Leutasch. The Int. Ganghofer cross-country ski race is classified as a Euroloppet, Austrialoppet and FIS race.
