The countdown is on: The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Seefeld 2019 will start on 20 February 2019. The organisers expect around 200,000 visitors to be transported to the competition venues. For this reason, the VVT acts as a mobility partner for the Nordic World Ski Championships throughout Tyrol and in parts of Bavaria.
Following the successful organisation of the World Cycling Championships, the next major event in Tyrol will soon be on the agenda: from 20 February to 3 March 2019, the best of the best of Nordic skiing will compete on the ski jumps and cross-country trails in Seefeld and Bergisel in Innsbruck. Around 200,000 spectators will come to the competitions and create a world championship atmosphere. In the interests of a sustainable journey for the fans to and from the event, ÖSV, its local organising committee and VVT will enter into a mobility partnership that will enable free transport throughout Tyrol.
ÖSV President Prof. Peter Schröcksnadel is delighted about the cooperation with the Verkehrsverbund Tirol: "With this partnership we are creating added value for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Seefeld 2019. Many thanks to all those involved in the VVT for their cooperation in a spirit of partnership". VVT Managing Director Alexander Jug is convinced: "In order to organise and handle the efficient and environmentally friendly transport of such a large number of people, strong partners and good offers for the fans are needed. The Verkehrsverbund Tirol will therefore provide all local transport connections throughout the state as well as the Werdenfelsbahn in Bavaria free of charge for owners of a World Cup ticket on the day of the competition".
In detail, the cooperation works as follows: With a valid World Cup ticket, all VVT, IVB and ÖBB connections throughout Tyrol can be used free of charge on the day indicated on the ticket. The long-distance trains (Railjet etc.) of ÖBB are excluded. From 10 January 2019, holders of a VVT annual ticket will also receive a 10% discount on World Cup tickets (except VIP tickets) or if some have already purchased a World Cup ticket, there will be an equivalent voucher for their consumption on site.
In Bavaria, all trains of the Werdenfelsbahn (from Munich) can be used free of charge on the day indicated on the admission ticket as of 20 February. Information on all connections in Tyrol can be found for fans and accredited persons at fahrplan.vvt.at and on the SmartRide app.
