Faces beaming with joy and eyes filled with tears of happiness – pure, unadulterated elation. That was the scene at the FIS Congress in Barcelona when it was announced that Seefeld had won the bid to host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
Even during the preliminary stages of putting together the concept, a strong focus was placed on key issues, such as construction work planning, the touristic infrastructure and ensuring minimum impact on the natural environment. When it came to planning and creating Nordic ski routes that make optimum use of the already existing local facilities, an expert – Hermod Bjorkestol – was brought on board to assist.
In order to arouse the enthusiasm of not only the FIS committee members, but also the local population, for Seefeld’s candidature as host of the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the region’s inhabitants and other interested parties were invited to an informative event in Seefeld’s Olympia Sport and Congress Centre.
In keeping with the slogan, “Hand in hand – let’s celebrate a Nordic ski festival”, the candidacy team made every effort to create an atmosphere of positive energy and to win over all the committee members.
On 1st September, the Austrian Ski Federation submitted the stipulated candidacy application to the International Ski Federation. On 1st October, a candidacy presentation was given in front of an FIS Inspection Committee.
The town of Seefeld, Olympic venue of the Nordic disciplines in 1964, 1976 and 1985, submitted its bid to host the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
