Faces beaming with joy and eyes filled with tears of happiness – pure, unadulterated elation. That was the scene at the FIS Congress in Barcelona when it was announced that Seefeld had won the bid to host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
The Tyrolean tourist resort prevailed over the other candidates, Oberstdorf[L1] (World Championship host 2005) and Planica [L2] (Slovenia). It was the wide spectrum of tourism services that proved to be to Seefeld’s advantage. Its large accommodation capacity, easy accessibility from Innsbruck and Munich airports and by rail, and its snow reliability were, at the end of the day, the deciding factors that resulted in Seefeld’s being selected as the venue of the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
