HOTEL ST. PETER & CHALETS: Elisabeth Spiegl

Living in the Olympiaregion Seefeld: How long have you already been living here or what brought you here? What makes the Olympiaregion so special for you / your family?

Apart from a couple of years that I spent abroad to learn languages, Seefeld has remained the centre of my life. What is special about the place I call home is the range of opportunities available for any free time and the perfect infrastructure (such as kindergarten, schools, groups, rail connections, etc.) which makes life a lot easier. The best thing about it for me, though, is that I can carry out my profession just about in front of my house door.

Each of our partner-hotels for WSC-athletes in the area is unique: How would you describe the philosophy which brought you to this point and which distinguishes you from other hotels?

Regarding the business, I only just took over the management of the Hotel St. Peter. The hotel, which had been run for more than 25 years as a family business, was sold in April 2016 and now we – a diversified management team – are in the process of giving the hotel a new start.

Are there any personal memories of the last FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1985 that you / your family could share with us? Did this event change or create new ambitions for Nordic ski sport?

My memories of the Nordic Ski World Championships in 1985 include the opening ceremony that I followed enthusiastically on the TV when I was at the residential hotel school Villa Blanka. Another memory is of the Austrian team who stayed in my parents‘house, the Hotel Marthe (now My Mountain Lodge). It was exciting and, at the same time, impressive to experience the athletes at close quarters. I haven’t really experienced Nordic ski sports myself as I am a die-hard alpine skier. But I’m open for anything!

What are you looking forward to while hosting the top WSC 2019 athletes in your hotel?

Hopefully we can do our part so that the sportsmen and -women feel at home here, that they have a good time and that, despite the competitive pressures, we can give the team a little bit of the St Peter and Seefeld.

Do you have a vision or a personal wish for 2019?

“Hand in Hand”. I hope that the athletes achieve the goals that they have set for themselves.
