Representatives of the FIS, led by General Secretary Sarah Lewis, from Infront and from the ORF learned about the progress of building works in Seefeld, venue for the FIS Ski World Championships in 2019, as part of a coordination meeting. As already revealed, the Nordic combination athletes will take part in a World Cup event in Seefeld from January 26-28, with – for the first time since 1999 – a race for the pure cross-country skiers also taking place. This ‘dress rehearsal’ for the World Championship cross-country skiers will take place on the newly-created trails, which the combined athletes will also be using as part of the Nordic Combined Triple.
The venue for the World Championships is still busy with building works in preparation for the event but, despite this, members of the media will be able to use the newly-renovated WM-Halle as a press centre in January 2018 and get an idea of what the World Championships will feel like. At the ski jump area work is taking place on improvements to allow athletes to get to the start tower while protected from the weather. Seefeld will be able to claim the mantle of being the ultimate Nordic skiing destination, thanks to the snow conditions which will be guaranteed by the newly-created reservoir above the ski jump tower on the Gschwandtkopf. Thanks to a volume of 110,000 m³, five kilometres of trail can be prepared in one day. Seefeld can claim the most effective snow provisions and coverage in the Nordic skiing world.
ÖSV General Secretary Dr. Klaus Leistner thanked everyone for the constructive teamwork in the name of the Austrian Ski Association and, like all participants, was confident that the 2019 Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld would be a festival for competitors and fans alike.
