SPORTS MEDIA AUSTRIA

Austrian sports journalists received an update on the progress of the preparations for the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships 2019 from the managing director of the Olympiaregion Seefeld tourist office Elias Walser along with the director of organisation for the championships Christian Scherer as part of the commitment to the motto “Hand in Hand”.

Attendees included SMA president Hans-Peter Trost, the vice president SMA Michael Schuen from the Kleine Zeitung, Christoph Zöpfel, head of sports for the OÖ Nachrichten and Florian Madl, sports department head for the Tiroler Tageszeitung.

The entire World Championship arena was inspected on foot while Martin Tauber (Seefeld Tourist Office & former Austrian cross-country skier and Olympic Games participant) explained the topics of the new construction, infrastructure and the current progress with building works.

The head of the Seefeld Casino Robert Frießer welcomed the journalists to the subsequent press conference.  Matthias Berger (Servus TV) moderated the event and teased out some interesting news from his interview subjects.

“We are very happy that the right holder Infront cooperates with our best Sports-TV-Producer, the ORF. This guarantees breath-taking pictures of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. The highlights for 2019 will be the top competitions in Seefeld and in Innsbruck (Bergisel Schanze). Overall, we hope for 200,000 spectators. Something that should be mentioned is the commercial risk that the Österreichische Skiverband (ÖSV) as the event organiser has sole responsibility for,” summed up Dr Klaus Leistner (ÖSV General Secretary).

ÖSV Sports Director Hans Pum discussed the anticipation for this important event. “A ‘home’ World Championships is always a special challenge. I am however confident that Seefeld, for me one of the loveliest areas and a pearl in the Nordic skiing world, will be a tremendous host.” When asked about the ÖSV sporting targets, he answered, “We have the opportunity to end up with medals in every discipline.”

Mario Stecher, ÖSV sports manager, covered the question of the appointment of Andreas Felder as the new trainer for the Austrian ski jumpers. “Actually, at the end of the day it was an easy decision to appoint Andi to this position. He is dynamic, reliable, can carry the team along with him, bring a sense of enjoyment back and has set the goal of making the team world class.”

“Even though our group is smaller, I am very optimistic that Theresa Stadlober, Dominik Baldauf, Bernhard Tritscher and Max Hauke have good chances of a medal,” said Markus Gandler, the sports manager for cross-country skiing and biathlon.

The Sports Media Austria representatives appeared to feel happy about the progress on the #RoadtoSeefeld2019.
