The town of Seefeld, Olympic venue of the Nordic disciplines in 1964, 1976 and 1985, submitted its bid to host the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Austria’s last Nordic World Championships took place in 1999 in the village of Ramsau. Seefeld’s competitors are Oberstdorf in Bavaria, Planica in Slovenia and Almaty in Kazakhstan. The decision as to which town will host the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be announced on 5th June 2014 at the FIS Congress in Barcelona.
Following a briefing on 7th June 2013 at an event meeting in Dubrovnik, attended by Rupert Steger, (ÖSV – Austrian Ski Federation), Werner Frießer (Mayor of Seefeld) and Markus Tschoner (Olympiaregion Seefeld Director), a team of experts immediately set to work on drawing up a concept to present to the International Ski Federation.
The focus is placed on the following topics: Infrastructure, resource-saving planning, sustainability & tradition in eco-tourism, environmental friendliness and an efficient traffic concept with shuttle busses and local trains.
