Comprising two very different disciplines – shooting and cross-country skiing – biathlon is a sport that combines endurance and precision. Boasting optimum conditions at an altitude of 1,200 metres above sea level and one of the most modern biathlon centres in Europe, the Olympiaregion Seefeld is an absolute mecca for fans of this Nordic sport.
Built in 2010, the biathlon complex in Seefeld’s Nordic Competence Centre, which boasts more than 30 small-calibre rifle shooting ranges, was used for the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics. An additional five mobile air-rifle ranges are also available. Outside of the complex over 245 kilometres of immaculately prepared cross-country ski tracks, covering all levels of difficulty, criss-cross the entire region providing ideal training conditions amid a breathtaking landscape. Thanks to a ‘snow farming’ project, tracks can be prepared and used as early as the beginning of November. The new 3.6-kilometre-long roller skiing circuit (outer loop), which can be modified in length and elevation, offers summertime training for biathlon enthusiasts.
The facilities are used not only by professional athletes, but also by hobby sportsmen and sportswomen and by holiday guests. The professional courses offered by Martin Tauber’s Cross Country Academy enable all those interested in the sport to enjoy their first taste of the world of biathlon.
