The natural toboggan run Wettersteinhütte can be reached directly from the Stupfer car park in the Gaistal valley via a broadly cleared winter long distance hiking trail. The ascent from the car park is well signposted and leads northwards with a pleasant gradient to just below the Wangalm. Over a somewhat more challenging cut into the valley, then left over the bridge and diagonally further uphill you reach the Wettersteinhütte at 1717 metres above sea level.
At the sunny mountain hut, Beate and Hans provide hungry hikers with traditional home-style cooking and other delicious refreshments - by the way, they also serve outrageously good ripples here in the evening if ordered in advance.
The sometimes quite demanding ascent (for 577 metres of altitude difference about 100 minutes walking time) is rewarded at the top by an unprecedented panorama over the Seefeld sunny plateau and up to the imposing "Grand Dame of the Alps", the Hohe Munde at 2662 metres above sea level. Grande Finale: The winding downhill run through three kilometres of Wetterstein-Winterwonderland. Attention: Although the natural toboggan run is not lit in the evening, you can stay overnight at the Wetterstein Hut on request.
