The Climate & Energy Model Regions program, funded by the Climate and Energy Fund, supports regional climate protection projects and co-finances regional model region management. Since 2024, the Seefeld Plateau has been a Climate & Energy Model Region. Simon Damerow, as the KEM Manager, serves as the key contact for the Seefeld Plateau and the Regional Management Innsbruck-Land on matters related to climate adaptation and energy efficiency. His main responsibilities include initiating, coordinating, and implementing projects in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, mobility, biodiversity, and vacancy management.

The Seefeld Tourism Association is launching a broad public participation process aimed at bringing together various stakeholders and interested parties to further develop the Seefeld region – Tirol’s high plateau – in a sustainable way. Building on previous efforts and the region’s recognition with the Austrian Ecolabel, the next step is to actively engage the local community. The goal is to establish a “Team Plateau”—a collaborative network of stakeholders from politics, business, and the local population—to ensure that tourism continues to evolve as a cross-sector community project with a strong sustainability focus.

The goal of the project is to develop the Seefeld roller skiing track into a barrier-free sports facility for various roller sports. The focus is on inclusive, safe, and conflict-free multiple use of existing infrastructure. Social participation, regional value creation, and sustainable mobility are inevitably promoted in the process. The project follows a sustainable inclusion approach that takes into account existing conditions and implements accessibility within the framework of realistic possibilities.

Mobility is a key success factor for companies, employees and regions alike. This is exactly where the INTERREG VI-A Italy–Austria project NetWorkMob comes in, developing innovative approaches to future-oriented corporate mobility management during the project period from 2025 to 2027.
Led by Klimabündnis Tirol and implemented in cooperation with Regionalmanagement Innsbruck Land, Regional Management LAG Pustertal, Plattform Land and the Ökoinstitut Südtirol, the project focuses on networking, know-how transfer and tailored solutions for businesses.
The Region Seefeld – Tirols Hochplateau is now an official project partner and actively contributes its regional perspective to this cross-border initiative. The aim is to develop sustainable, practical and economically viable mobility strategies while systematically advancing and improving the corporate mobility management of the Seefeld Tourism Board.

The EU project MountResilience develops solutions for climate change adaptation in European mountain regions during the project period from 2023 to 2028. The focus is on practical, transferable measures designed to strengthen the long-term resilience of regions, infrastructure and communities. The consortium brings together more than 47 partners from across Europe, testing innovative adaptation measures in six demonstrator regions and scaling them as replicators in four additional regions.
The Region Seefeld – Tirols Hochplateau is actively involved as a project partner. Together with the Rosshütte cable car company, we contribute our local experience to the implementation process, aiming to develop practical, climate-resilient solutions for our mountain region while learning from one another. At the same time, participation in the project helps us further refine our own approaches to climate change adaptation and to strengthening regional resilience.

Past Projects & Partnerships

This project is being implemented in collaboration with Innsbruck Tourism and the Austrian National Association for People with Disabilities (ÖZIV). Our goal is to further develop the Seefeld and Innsbruck regions to create greater accessibility for affected guests, including families, wheelchair users, and people with visual or hearing impairments. A key focus is on helping tourism businesses expand or integrate inclusive tourism into their offerings. By working with experts, stakeholders, and successful best practices, we aim to develop a meaningful and high-quality project that ensures greater accessibility and inclusion in the region.

In the Seefeld region, forecasts on visitor volume at various excursion destinations are generated based on different data sources, including mobile network data, weather data, event calendars, and holiday schedules. These insights are used to create tailored recommendations, which are then shared with guests at various touchpoints. The project helps optimize visitor distribution, ensuring a better balance of tourism flows while enhancing regional economic value.

The project aims to develop a cross-border visitor monitoring system in the EUREGIO Zugspitze Wetterstein Karwendel area to manage visitor flows and protect the natural environment. By combining sensor-based visitor counting with digital GPS data, reliable analyses and forecasts are generated and visualized in a heatmap. This enables well-informed tourism management, optimizes ranger deployment, and supports political decisions on overtourism.
