Climbing in the Seefeld Region

Climbing Area Hinterreintalschrofen South Face

At an altitude of 2250 meters, above the Rotmoosalm in the Wetterstein Mountains, lies the newly renovated Alpine climbing area Hinterreintalschrofen South Face. Experienced climbers will find a total of 7 routes here – both sport climbing routes and multi-pitch climbs – rated at the fifth and sixth difficulty levels in typical Wetterstein limestone.

The Hinterreintalschrofen South Face climbing area was newly renovated in spring 2022. It is absolutely necessary to bring complete alpine gear (helmet, rappel devices, mobile protection devices, half rope for multi-pitch climbs, etc.) as well as alpine climbing experience.

The location high above the Gaistal near Leutasch could hardly be more spectacular, and the Rotmoosalm (2030m) is the perfect base for it: before climbing, one can enjoy a second breakfast, and at the end of the day, a well-deserved meal awaits with homemade dumplings, Kaiserschmarrn, and more while watching the sunset, with the warm hospitality of hosts Eva and Florian. The Alm is also the ideal base for multi-day climbing adventures in the Wetterstein Mountains, as the legendary alpine climbing area Schüsselkar is only about 1.5 hours away.

The approach to the climbing area Hinterreintalschrofen South Face is done from the parking lot in Gaistal on foot via the Hämmermoosalm in about 2 to 3 hours. It is easier with the e-bike, as one can ride via the Gaistalalm in about 1.5 hours. From the Rotmoosalm, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes on foot to reach the start of the routes.

Despite careful renovation and regular maintenance, high altitude hazards such as falling rocks etc. are never excluded. The use of the climbing area is at one's own responsibility and one's own risk. Climbing requires the proper handling of climbing equipment and various rope, belaying, and climbing techniques, as well as proper planning of routes and tours.
