From events to training – the Seefeld region excels in top-class sports

Sports mega-events have always dictated the rhythm of the Seefeld region. Three times, in 1964, 1976, and 2012, the Olympic Winter Games were held on Tyrol's most beautiful high plateau, which for a long time was reflected in the name of the then Olympic region. Twice, in 1985 and 2019, the Toni-Seelos ski jumps and the surrounding cross-country skiing trails hosted the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships. For the 2019 World Championship, a dedicated arena was created, the WM Arena. In the years following the Nordic mega-event, it developed into Arena365 and is now not only a training home for ski jumpers, cross-country skiers, and Nordic combiners, but also welcomes top athletes from other disciplines.

Arena365 – Center of Sports Infrastructure
Top-level sports and international hospitality are a major focus of the region, which is noticeable everywhere. Tirol's high plateau offers a compact area with a professional sports infrastructure that caters to professionals, amateurs, and ambitious recreational athletes alike. At its center is Arena365. In winter, it features two snow-covered ski jump hills equipped with floodlights, a competitive biathlon facility, and serves as the entry point to over 245 perfectly prepared kilometers of cross-country trails in the region, including the original World Cup and World Championship courses. In summer, a floodlit natural grass football field, the year-round biathlon facility, and the summer ski roller track welcome athletes and recreational sports enthusiasts from around the world for training. Changing rooms and waxing cabins in the base building complete the offerings of the Arena. However, the sports and training highlights of the region are far from over. Just a few steps away, you can find even more of what athletes desire: four snow-safe ski areas, two swimming pools, several fitness studios, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, additional football fields, two golf courses, and almost endless opportunities for trail running, mountain running, or cycling.

Top Events and Top Athletes
It’s no wonder that not only many sporting events have been hosted in the region for decades but also many top athletes utilize the region for their training camps. In winter, these include the Nordic Combined Triple for Nordic combiners, the Euroloppet Ganghoferlauf, and numerous international youth events for cross-country skiers, ski jumpers, and alpine ski racers which are fixed fixtures on the event calendar. In summer, the legendary Karwendelmarsch, the Zugspitze Ultra Trail, the Ganghofer Trail, and international tennis and golf tournaments lure top athletes to the region. The top stars of the sports scene can be experienced in Tirol's high plateau not just in competition mode. On the trails, you can often encounter international top athletes such as double world champion Johannes Lamparter (AUT, Nordic Combined), Olympic champion and world champion Jessica Diggins (USA, cross-country skiing), Olympian and world championship medalist Franz Josef-Rehrl (AUT, Nordic Combined), as well as world-class biathletes Anna Gandler (AUT) and Laura Dahlmeier (GER). On the ski slopes, big names like Lindsey Vonn (USA) and vice-world champion Kira Weidle (GER) carve their turns. In summer, the DFB and ÖFB, as well as numerous international top clubs, utilize the football fields and the pleasant mountain climate for their training camps.
