The ski legend Toni Seelos

Toni Seelos (1911–2006) was a prominent figure in alpine skiing and one of the most famous personalities in the Seefeld region. As a four-time World Ski Champion, he revolutionized skiing techniques by replacing the traditional stem turn with the parallel turn. Although he was unable to participate in the Olympics as a professional ski instructor, he ran as a pace-setter and was faster than the Olympic champion.

Seelos also took on important coaching roles. In 1934, he trained German skier Christl Cranz, leading her to Olympic victory and twelve World Championship titles. In 1937, he also successfully coached the French national team. Until the 1980s, he led the ski school in his hometown of Seefeld. His legacy is felt not only in the championships and techniques but also in the Toni Seelos Olympic Ski Jump in Seefeld, which is named after him.
