Cozy mountain hut with night spot at 1,917 meters. Crystal clear mountain lake included.

The Coburger Hütte dates back to 1895 and enjoys a fantastic sunny location in a high valley, close to the crystal-clear lake, the Seebensee. It is a popular destination for long hikes and (e)-bike tours in the Wetterstein mountains. Surrounded by impressive peaks and the dramatic Zugspitze massif, this working alm pastureland offers guests hearty Tyrolean fare in a traditional rustic setting. The Coburger Hütte also has overnight accommodation for up to 80 people.
The Coburger Hütte has fresh drinking water from its own spring and the hosts, Jürgen and Sonja, are on hand to serve up freshly-prepared food and drink to the many mountain enthusiasts who choose to sit and relax on the inviting sun terrace. There are plenty of activities on offer around the Coburger Hütte too. From summit tours (Sonnenspitze, Drachenkopf, Marienbergspitze, Grünstein, Tajakopf, Griesspitzen) to geocaching, climbing routes, a good selection of bike tours or even a refreshing dip in the nearby lakes, the Seebensee or the Drachensee (slightly further up). Children are most welcome, the access route is family-friendly, and there is even the possibility to stock up with supplies for anyone on a multi-day alpine adventure.

During the warm summer months, the Coburger Hütte offers overnight accommodation for up to 80 people in dormitory-style rooms of varying sizes. A sleeping bag inner is mandatory and can be purchased on-site. The Coburger Hütte also has a seminar and presentation room with projector, HD-TV and internet, making it ideal for groups, schools and company outings, and the modern sanitary facilities make sure guests have plenty of warm water! Dogs and other pets are welcome by prior arrangement but must stay in the building next door. Reservations required.

The idyllic alpine refuge above the lake, the Seebensee, is easy to get to from Salzbach in the Leutasch side valley, the Gaistal. There is a carpark (charges apply) if you choose to drive or a bus stop if you prefer to arrive by regional bus. From Salzbach follow the wide, family-friendly, gravel trail past the refreshment stops, the Gaistalalm and Tillfussalm, until you come to the crystal-clear lake, the Seebensee, and from there continue to the Coburger Hütte. Alternatively, you can take the gondola from Ehrwald to the Ehrwalder Alm and walk or cycle from there.

  • Mountain lakes and meadows in the valley, the Gaistal. Moderately difficult hiking through alpine pastureland in the picturesque valley, the Gaistal. Start from the Salzbach carpark and follow the well-known Ganghofer trail on bike and family-friendly gravel paths to the small lake, the Igelsee, and from there continue past the refreshment stop, the Seebenalm, to the lake, the Seebensee, and finally to the Coburger Hütte. You can have a breather and enjoy a tasty treat at the Gaistalalm or the Tillfussalm on your way to the lakes. Located just above the Coburger Hütte is another lake, the Drachensee. Return the same way back to Leutasch.

  • (E)-bike tour through the valley, the Gaistal. A spectacular, moderately difficult bike tour through the valley, the Gaistal, to the Coburger Hütte. Start from the Salzbach carpark and cycle along well-marked gravel trails to just below the lake, the Seebensee. The final kilometre is steep so you can either cycle or walk. From the lake, continue on foot up to the Coburger Hütte. There are several places to stop for a rest along the way and you might even enjoy a spontaneous paddle in the cool waters of the Leutascher Ache. Return the same way, just somewhat faster downhill.
