Authentic alpine farm with overnight accommodation and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

The picturesque Rotmoosalm at 2,030 metres above sea level is the highest hut in the Wetterstein mountains and a special stop for families, hikers and bikers. After an avalanche, the managed alpine hut was completely rebuilt in 2011 and, in addition to a real alpine farm with a good 230 cattle and 30 horses, also offers overnight accommodation for up to 14 people. For bikers, there are storage and lock-off facilities for bikes, and e-bikers can even charge their batteries on the alp with their own charger. The Rotmoosalm is open from May only during the summer months and welcomes exhausted hikers with traditional home cooking, freshly tapped delicacies and wonderful mountain air on the spacious sun terrace.

OVERNIGHT STAY
After prior registration at +43 676 451 69 00, up to 14 people can spend the night at the Rotmoosalm in a spacious mattress dormitory. Modern sanitary facilities ensure special comfort at 2,030 metres above sea level. The loving hosts Evi and Florian have been running the alpine hut for over 26 years and have long been known among gourmets for their excellent cuisine.

LOCATION & STARTING POINT
The starting point of the tour is the car park at the Salzbach in the Leutascher Gaistal. If you want to travel in an environmentally friendly way, you can also arrive comfortably by regional bus all year round. From the Leutasch Gaistal/Salzbach bus stop, you can then reach the Rotmoosalm on foot via picturesque paths and on a wide forest path by (e-)bike. Dogs are also welcome on request.

SUMMER TOURS

  • Hike or (e-)bike tour to the alp. A picturesque forest trail leads from the Salzbach car park through the Leutascher Gaistal to the Rotmoosalm. It takes about two and a half hours to reach the top on foot, while the (e-)bike route is more suitable for experienced riders. From the Rotmoosalm, hikes to other alpine pastures or to the impressive Predigtstuhl (2,234m) are possible.

  • Hochalm Hike. The high alpine hike above the picturesque Leutascher Gaistal leads from the Stupfer car park via Wettersteinhütte and Wangalm to the Rotmoosalm in around seven hours. From there you hike on via the Steinerne Hüttl, the Tillfußalm and the famous Ganghoferweg back to the car park in the Gaistal. A beautiful panoramic hike through extensive game and forest areas at 2,000 metres above sea level, with numerous authentic alpine huts along the way. If you pay close attention, it is not uncommon to see larger groups of chamois climbing and grazing in the rocky terrain.
