Attractive destination for hikes and challenging mountain tours. With lush alpine meadows, home-style cooking and overnight accommodation in the mountains.

Surrounded by green alpine meadows, the cosy Solsteinhaus nestles at 1,805 metres above sea level below the Großer Solstein in the Karwendel Nature Park. The inviting atmosphere offers an attractive excursion destination for challenging mountain tours in the summer months and spoils hiking guests with hearty Tyrolean specialities. For group excursions and alpine tours lasting several days, a seminar room and 85 overnight camps are also available. Not far from the Solsteinhaus, a modern climbing garden, a flying fox and a new outdoor climbing wall also provide plenty of action in the Alps.

In the summer months, up to 85 people can stay in the cosy Solsteinhaus in small private rooms or in the communal mattress dormitory. Training facilities and a seminar room for up to 30 participants are also available for group, school class and company excursions. You can even take a hot shower in the state-of-the-art sanitary facilities for a small fee. The hosts ask for reservations in good time; bookings can also be made online.

Many routes lead to the Solsteinhaus in the Region Seefeld: by bus or train from the stations in Scharnitz or Hochzirl, by village taxi from Hochzirl to Oberbach or by car either from the hospital car park in Hochzirl or the Länd hikers' car park in Scharnitz. The routes from Scharnitz and Hochzirl can also be nicely combined into a long Karwendel crossing (Adlerweg), depending on ability and fitness.

  • Hike to the Solsteinhaus. Medium-difficulty hike from the Scharnitz information centre over wide forest roads in the direction of Gleirschtal, on to Kristenalm and via Jagdhaus to Erlalm. From there you reach the Solsteinhaus in about ten minutes. Head down the valley towards Hochzirl and take the train back to Scharnitz.

  • Nördlingerhütte and Solsteinhaus. Challenging Karwendel tour from the Maximilianhütte car park in Reith via the Reitherjoch Alm to the Nördlinger Hütte, on to the Solsteinhaus and via Hochzirl back to Reith by train.

  • Adlerweg - Stage 14: On the Way of St. James from Innsbruck to Kematen and on to Zirl. Through the wild and romantic Ehnbachklamm gorge uphill to Hochzirl and via the Solnalm to the Solsteinhaus. Alternatively, the Adlerweg can be shortened with an impressive train ride from Innsbruck to Hochzirl, in which case the extensive hike is also doable with children.

  • Adlerweg – Stage 15
The next stage of the famous Adlerweg leads from the Solsteinhaus through the gravel fields of the Eppzirler Scharte northwards to the Eppzirler Alm (surefootedness essential). Follow the Gießenbach stream through the wildly beautiful gorge out of the valley and from the village of Gießenbach then continue along the train route to Scharnitz. Alternatively, branch off before Scharnitz in the direction of Hoher Sattel and climb steeply down to Leutasch/Ahrn. The hike can of course also be done in the opposite direction to the Solsteinhaus, but it is then advisable to spend the night at the refuge.
