Austrian Eco-Label for Destinations

Excellent

We are proud bearers of the Austrian Eco-Label. This commits us to fulfilling an ambitious set of criteria for our region and to regularly monitoring our measures and checking their feasibility.

For this purpose, the tourism association, local politics, regional management, the Karwendel Nature Park, and our local businesses work closely together and exchange ideas with other destinations. Furthermore, the Austrian Ministry of Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, as well as the Austrian Eco-Label team in VKI are project partners. The project is also supported by the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism.

Austria's environmental label for Tyrol's high plateau

At the end of May 2022, we faced the extensive audit process for the Austrian Eco-Label for tourism destinations. Together with representatives of the regional municipalities, the TVB board, Tirol Werbung, and regional stakeholders, we demonstrated our commitment to sustainable destination development under the guidance of Johann Madreiter, Christian Baumgartner, and Otto Fichtl, who are responsible for the eco-label at the Association for Consumer Information (VKI). Successfully.

Since June 2023, we are officially allowed to bear the Austrian Eco-Label for tourism destinations!

"We are proud to be able to take on a pioneering role here and to be one of the first two destinations in Austria to carry this prestigious sign," says TVB Managing Director Elias Walser.
Alois Seyrling, chairman of the Seefeld Tourism Association, adds: "The awarding of the Austrian Environmental Label is an important milestone on our already multi-year journey to offer forward-looking tourism." All involved actors from the tourism association, local politics, local businesses, and the Karwendel Nature Park are very proud of the quality seal, but at the same time view it as just another step towards a sustainable, environmentally conscious future for the region.

"The environmental label for destinations cannot be obtained alone, neither as a municipality nor as a tourism association. It is awarded to the region in its entirety, and only when all actors work together," explains Walser, who is pleased that all parties support the concept of sustainability so unanimously. Among them are the municipalities of Seefeld, Leutasch, Mösern-Buchen/Telfs municipality, Reith, and Scharnitz, as well as the regional management of Innsbruck Land with Albuin Neuner and the local businesses. They all want to set an example and raise awareness.

A special role is played by the Plateau Pioneers, a group of ten actors who demonstrate how sustainability can work. In addition to the tourism association and the Karwendel Nature Park, eight hotel businesses are providing pioneering efforts in environmental protection. Five of them, the Naturhotel aufatmen, the Biohotel Leutascherhof, the Hotel Klosterbräu, the Alpenhotel Karwendel, and the Schmiedhof have also been awarded the environmental label and the EU Ecolabel. The other hotels are still in the application process.
