Not far from Scharnitz, the northern foothill of the Region Seefeld, is situated at the Bavarian border, behind it Mittenwald and a bit further in the woods two unforgettable refreshments: Lake Lautersee and Lake Ferchensee.

From the Scharnitz Nature Park Information Center, you can reach the two mountain lakes wither witn an enjoyable (e-)bike ride or an hike.

As first of the two natural bathing lakes, just 5 kilometers from Mittenwald, you will reach the Lake Lautersee. The path is beautiful, leads picturesquely through the Laintal, a short steep section to the Mariengrotte and reaches at the top of the little forest chapel "Maria Königin" with "Lüftmalerei" and Lake Lautersee. Especially in the early morning houres , when nearly nobody walks here, the green colors of the meadows and forests are impressively reflected in the crystal clear mountain water. During the walk around the lake you can enjoy a break and freshly caught fish in one of the three idyllic inns, while children can enjoy the "bathing beach", diving platform, the jetty and a waterslide.
