Our commitment to climate and environmental protection
The Region Seefeld is shaped by valuable natural landscapes and remarkable biodiversity. Tirols Hochplateau stretches between mountains and valleys, forests and meadows, air and water. These natural treasures are not only at the heart of tourism, but also form an essential basis of life for people and wildlife. With this privilege comes responsibility. We are deeply committed to protecting the environment and the climate. For us, sustainability is not a trend, but an attitude that guides how we treat nature, our guests, local residents and future generations.
We take targeted action to reduce emissions, conserve resources and contribute to climate and environmental protection. As a tourism association, we take responsibility for our activities and regularly measure our corporate carbon footprint. Our focus is on renewable energy, efficient biomass heating systems, the expansion of photovoltaic installations and energy-saving technologies such as LED lighting. At the same time, we are committed to protecting and promoting biodiversity by preserving habitats and supporting measures that help strengthen species diversity. After all, healthy natural environments and rich biodiversity are essential for stable ecosystems and a liveable future.

Projects & Measures for the Protection of Our Nature

Collaboration with the Karwendel Nature Park
We are especially proud of our close partnership with the Karwendel Nature Park, Austria’s largest nature park. Through this strong cooperation, we implement important conservation projects—such as reforestation efforts, alpine pasture maintenance, and clearing overgrowth—to preserve the landscape while creating unique experiences for our guests.
An essential part of our joint efforts is raising awareness and educating visitors. We promote this through guided hikes, shared events, and various educational initiatives.

Together for a Cleaner Environment – Our CleanUpPlateau Challenge
As part of our annual "Spring Clean-Up," we take a strong stand for environmental protection in the region. This collective waste collection initiative raises awareness of our precious nature and results in several tons of trash being removed. Every participant who collects at least 5 kg of waste is rewarded with a €15 voucher for use in participating restaurants and businesses on the plateau. This way, we not only do something good for the environment but also support our local economy.

Projects by the Plateau Pioneers & Team Plateau
Whether restoring peatlands, joining forces to care for alpine pastures, tackling invasive plant species or promoting nature-friendly gardening, the Plateau Pioneers and Team Plateau bring people from across the region together to take concrete action to preserve our natural landscapes.

Increasing Biodiversity Through Natural Green Spaces
Habitat loss due to land sealing, construction, and pesticide use is a major issue—even in Tyrol. To counteract the resulting decline in insect populations, we are focusing on creating diverse, natural green spaces to enhance biodiversity in populated areas. So far, over 3,000 m² of lawn has been successfully transformed into vibrant wildflower meadows.

Climate-Resilient Mountain Forests
Our sunny high plateau is shaped by dense forests that protect air and water while serving as the foundation for sustainable forestry. We are actively working to make these forests more resilient and biodiverse. On a designated forest area in the region, most spruce trees were removed, while deadwood and young tree clusters were deliberately left intact. In the newly opened spaces, fir, sycamore maple, and wych elm were planted to create a diverse mixed forest. This approach fosters a climate-resilient mountain forest—one that not only provides valuable timber but also offers a habitat for numerous species and is better equipped to withstand extreme weather events than monocultures.

Flower Decorations for the Future
Nothing enhances our homes quite like colorful, blooming balcony flowers. With the "Sustainable Flower Box" project, we show how easy it is to create environmentally friendly floral displays. In collaboration with Seidemann Nursery, we have designed flower boxes that use peat-free soil and organic fertilizer, filled with nectar-rich flowers that brighten up the entrances of Seefeld Tourism’s information offices and business locations every summer. These sustainable flower boxes are also available for local businesses and residents to order.
