The Summer Season 2024 in Numbers

In the comparison of Tyrol, the region ranked seven with 1,088,054 overnight stays, while the municipality of Seefeld maintained fourth place, as already announced in the print version dated September 30, 2024. The plateau municipality held on to its lead with 593,357 overnight stays, ahead of the glacier municipalities of Neustift in the Stubai Valley and Sölden by about 45,000 and nearly 58,000, respectively. The World Cup resort recorded around 1,200 more arrivals.

According to state statistics, Tyrol's high plateau saw an increase of 8.7% in arrivals and 4.7% in overnight stays. This makes the region stand out positively compared to many other regions, such as Tyrol overall (-0.3% for overnight stays and +1.4% for arrivals), which have either remained at the previous year's level or recorded a decline.

A similar picture is seen among the municipalities. Seefeld appears to have a positive increase of 5.6% in overnight stays and 10.1% in arrivals. The municipality of Leutasch also recorded an increase of 6.2% in overnight stays and 9.3% in arrivals. Only Fügen, Ehrwald, and Lienz show similar numbers.

Compared to 2019, the region performs weaker: The overnight stay figures have remained the same, while there is a slight decline in arrivals.

The duration of stay decreases in summer 2024 throughout Tyrol (from 3.6 to 3.5 days) and in the plateau area (from 3.4 to 3.3 days).

The closure of the campsite and several other businesses has led to a significant decline in bed capacity in the region over the past years, amounting to around 11%. However, we are not alone in this situation in Tyrol. The positive aspect is that, despite having fewer rental beds available, we have not experienced any losses in overnight stays and can thus record a positive occupancy rate for the remaining beds. A recent comparison published in the Tiroler Tageszeitung highlights Tyrol's high plateau as a positive example when compared to other regions in Tyrol that have not succeeded in this regard.

In the distribution of summer guests by nationality, there are no major discrepancies. Germany remains the main country of origin for our guests with a market share of around 48%. Switzerland and Liechtenstein follow in second place with around 13%, while Italy is ranked third, as usual in summer, ahead of Austria and the Netherlands.

China and India are seeing significant growth again in 2024. Especially, China is tripling its overnight stays. The end of the pandemic can be clearly felt here. Nevertheless, the gap to 2019 is still very large and will likely close only slowly.
