The Eng Alm agricultural community comprises an idyllic small alpine village on the picturesque Ahornboden at 1,250 metres above sea level in the middle of the Karwedel Nature Park. A total of 510 hectares of pasture land are available for active alpine farming on the plateau during the summer months. During regular guided tours of the alpine pastures, guests can experience the alpine pasture life up close, taste fresh milk from the pastures or look over the shoulder of the chefs as they make fresh mountain butter and delicious cheese (2x gold and 1x silver in the Almkäseolympiade 2019).

Big and small alpine pasture visitors are served homemade specialities in the cosy restaurant, and you can also take the delicacies back down to the valley in the adjacent farm shop. A modern mountain playground is open for little adventures, while countless other mountain tours lead through the Karwendel mountains in the surrounding area. During the summer months, up to 60 people can also stay overnight in the tranquil mountain village of Eng Alm and explore the Karwendel with multi-day hiking or biking tours. Locking and charging facilities for (e-)bikes are also available, but you will need to bring a suitable charging cable.

Direct access to the Eng Alm is only permitted for overnight guests of the Almdorf Eng. For day guests, the Eng Alm hikers' car park is approx. 700 m away.
For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, a nostalgic horse-drawn carriage can take you from the car park to the Almdorf and back several times a day. The Große Ahronboden/Eng can also be reached by public transport from Lenggries or Krün/Mittenwald.

During the summer months, four traditional farmhouses in the idyllic Almdorf Eng offer a total of 60 cosy beds in two- and four-bed rooms for overnight stays. With modern sanitary facilities, hot water and showers, you don't have to do without any comfort on the alp. Due to the limited capacity, we ask you to make reservations in good time. Overnight guests may even drive up to the mountain pasture by car on request.

  • Karwendelmarsch & Karwendellauf. The legendary and strenuous Karwendelmarsch/Run attracts countless mountain sports fans every year. But you can also master the two distances on your own outside of the popular competition: Either 35 or 52 kilometres lead along challenging natural paths through the extensive Karwendel mountains. On the way, you can stop at various alpine huts and shelters (e.g. Falkenhütte, Karwendelhaus, Eng Alm and Binsalm) or spend the night, and you determine your own walking speed.
    To the 35km walk
    To the 52km walk
    To the 52km run
  • Lamsenjochhütte. The Lamsenjochhütte at 1953 m is a popular destination in the Karwendel Nature Park. The trail starts directly at the Eng Alpine Inn and leads via the Binsalm and the Binsalm Hochleger up to the western Lamsenjoch. From there, more or less without any notable incline, you follow a narrow path along a gravelly slope to the cosy mountain hut.
