Seefeld 2019: In the TV Studios of the World Championships
The images of the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld went around the world: 900 hours were broadcast live worldwide, and many more hours were reported on various channels about the events and background of the World Championships. Two TV channels even moved their studios directly to Seefeld for the World Championships: the Austrian channel ORF and the Norwegian channel NRK. We took an exclusive look behind the cameras and into the studios of the channels.
NRK: The Norwegian broadcaster
It was actually clear from the beginning that the Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld would become a celebration for the Norwegians: There was hardly any event where the Norwegians did not stand on the podium. The medal table is firmly in their hands, and the fans had a lot to celebrate. Norway is indeed a Nordic nation – and so the broadcaster NRK has set up a studio right in the village center of Seefeld to report as best as possible on the events in Tyrol.
65 employees are on-site at the elegant glass studio. They broadcast daily from the NRK studio for about 20 to 45 minutes. They even brought the interior design from the far north: The wood of the furniture comes from their capital Oslo. By the way: To ensure everything fits perfectly, they already set up the studio completely as a test beforehand.
In the studio, there is a large pan-tilt camera, to which an infrared camera is attached at the front. It recognizes all the "dots" in the studio and thus knows where the presenter is standing. This is important for the graphics: A picture of the competition or similar is always displayed during the show. The graphics come from the World Cup camera truck, and thanks to the infrared camera, they appear magically next to the presenter in the picture.
The setup of the NRK studio also includes a wooden table where the winning medals are engraved. The winners are allowed to sign here.
The size of the studio is a small challenge for the team: "Small" in the truest sense of the word. Normally, they have more space, so working here can be quite hectic. Nevertheless, NRK can report right from the heart of Seefeld about the Norwegian heroes of the World Championship in Seefeld 2019, who are creating a real medal shower here!
ORF and TirolBerg TV Studio: A Stylish Collaboration
There is also busy filming going on in the TirolBerg TV studio: From there, ORF broadcasts live. On one side of the studio is the ORF studio, featuring a fantastic view of the Medal Plaza and Seekirchl. On the other side is the TirolBerg TV studio, designed in stylish Tyrolean style. You can not only see this but also smell it: Upon entering the studio, one immediately notices the pleasant scent of wood and the warm atmosphere.
If shooting takes place simultaneously in the ORF and TirolBerg TV studios, there is a Green Room with a green wall and a neutral wall: here filming can take place and the backdrop of the TirolBerg Studio can be integrated.
About 20 employees are on the move in the joint studios or working with a mobile camera team.

The World Championships in Seefeld were a great success for the ORF broadcaster: A total of 2.818 million viewers in Austria followed the broadcasts according to ORF. This accounts for 37 percent of the population aged 12 and over.
The most popular program was the competitions of the combiners. 719,000 Austrians tuned in to ORF on February 24. The viewing figures for the men's team ski jumping are also more than satisfactory: 718,000 viewers were excited in front of their TVs. By the way, this corresponds to a market share of 44% and 39% respectively.
The interview partners of the TirolBerg TV studio are presented with a generously filled gift basket. The guests are also welcomed with a delicious Tyrolean snack.
