WINTER
Seefeld has always turned its back on après ski: five alternatives to après ski
Our motto for the year: Everything but ordinary! And our winter motto for 2020/2021: everything but après! We've always preferred refined winter sports fun over party scenes on the slopes. That's why this coming winter we will focus on true nature experiences and first-class enjoyment in the snow, hotel, and restaurant. When it comes to skiing, our motto is: “Skiing, not just riding the gondolas”. This means almost all of the approximately 30 kilometers of slopes can be accessed without closed gondolas, with just a few exceptions. And afterwards? Here are five non-alcoholic alternatives to après ski that you can only experience with us.
Winter Hiking: WWW in a different way – 100 percent radiation-free
Escaping everyday life, finding oneself in a meditative rhythm, experiencing nature with all senses – long-distance hiking has been a new mega trend not only since Corona. Long-distance hiking is not just for summer, but also wonderful in winter. On the first winter long-distance hiking trail in Tyrol, you can try out "winter sports for everyone." The advantages over skiing and ski touring: You are not in alpine terrain, no special prior knowledge or equipment is needed, and it's remarkably cost-effective. Whether a four-day snow hike without snowshoes, day tours around the five villages, or hiking with snowshoes through unspoiled nature – here you feel (almost) like you are in Canada!
Cross-country skiing: Full-body workout without a hangover the next morning
There are hardly any sports that have as many positive side effects as cross-country skiing: it's healthy, strengthens the immune system, offers a true, authentic experience of nature – and is a lot of fun. Cross-country skiing is becoming more and more of a new trend sport, and if you haven't tried it yet, this winter is definitely the perfect time to get on your cross-country skis! And that's happening soon: thanks to the altitude and snow farming, the cross-country skiing season starts up here on November 20, 2020. In addition, there are about 250 kilometers of trails in the entire region for classic fans and skaters, a night trail, a dog trail, and toboggan runs during the winter. Feeling excited? Annual tickets and gift vouchers (e.g. for Christmas) are available through the online shop and on-site at the information offices in Seefeld and Leutasch.

Curling: Better close to the target than close to the edge.
Curling is for everyone! At least in a way that guarantees an immediate fun game. You don't sweat, you don't need any equipment (the curling stones can be rented on site), you don’t have to take a gondola or climb a steep mountain for it. Therefore: Whether big or small, athletic or more relaxed – Curling is a huge fun for all who love fresh air and sociability in a small group! In curling, you try to slide the stones as close as possible to the "Daube" (the puck-like target). This "winter bowling" has a long tradition here. And it offers a beautiful backdrop right next to the Seekirchl. The introduction to curling (cost: 12€ with the guest card) takes place here every Tuesday. Even more peace while playing and perfect ice for fun rounds can be found at Toni’s curling lanes just a few minutes’ walk from the center.

Ice Skating: Double Axel on the ice instead of dancing on the table with a drink in hand.
About ice! Especially in these special times, one is happy about three things: fresh air, plenty of space – and immune-boosting sports. So off to ice skating! But please, not in a stuffy hall. Instead, go outside into the icy nature. Around Seefeld, there are great opportunities to glide across the clear ice on narrow blades. A prime example: the Möserer See. As soon as it freezes for an extended period and the ice surface is more than ten centimeters thick, the ice surface is prepared – including a panoramic path on the ice and a field for ice hockey. If the Möserer See is a bit too far from the pedestrian zone in Seefeld, you can simply stroll to the artificial ice rink near the Seekircherl.

Sledding: better to ride gracefully than to crash aimlessly.
Sledding is as old as Tyrol itself. Once, wooden and horn sleds were tools and means of transport in steep terrain; nowadays, sledding is becoming increasingly popular as a versatile and cost-effective alternative to skiing. In the region, you will find eight characterful natural toboggan runs: At Katzenkopf, you can comfortably take the lift to the top and, after a stop at the Katzenkopf Hut, have fun sliding down into the valley. The longest and most demanding toboggan runs lead from the Wettersteinhütte and Rauthhütte down into the valley. If you prefer it less wild, you can slide down from the Hämmermoosalm. By the way: You can also go sledding right in the middle of Seefeld! From the toboggan hill opposite the Seekirchl and from Pfarrhügel down towards Wildsee. The most beautiful toboggan runs and their descriptions can be found here.
