For those who want to aim higher

Difficult Hikes in Tyrol | Seefeld Region

Challenging hikes in Tyrol are ideal for experienced mountaineers who want to reach great heights. On Tyrol's high plateau, you can expect demanding routes with longer hiking times, many elevation meters, and complex terrain – perfect for those with endurance, skills, and experience. In Scharnitz, the Karwendel Mountains open the gates to the largest nature park in Austria. There runs one of the most famous mountain tours in the region, the Karwendel High Trail – challenging, multi-day, and full of alpine highlights. In Leutasch, true challenges await you with the Hohe Munde, the Wetterstein Mountains, and the Gaistal.

Important Notes:

  • Difficult tours require sure-footedness, freedom from vertigo, and excellent physical fitness; often with sections secured by ropes and easy climbing passages.
  • If in doubt or for a start on more challenging tours: use state-certified mountain guides.
  • Rest stops with current opening hours are linked in the tours; complete overview of all alms & huts (including filter for open ones) online.
  • Use the filter to find routes by category, length, elevation gain & location.
  • Pay attention to (V)Behavior rules, check current path closures online.
  • Guest card = free use of regional buses, train Seefeld–Scharnitz & Wildmoosbus (available from your host).
