Among the seemingly endless variety of the Seefeld region, some of these precious treasures hide, which not only delight the soul but also spare the wallet. We will reveal to you in this post which priceless experiences you can discover for free in the Seefeld region!
Hiking, but different
The special location of Tyrol's high plateau opens up a whole new world while hiking: Far away from everyday stress, you can truly relax your soul, and it doesn’t cost a cent here. In addition to countless hiking trails, the vast region also offers several thematic trails, which add considerable value to the natural experience: On the Reither Bee Educational Trail, you will not only get to know the local flora and fauna but also the fascinating life of wild and honey bees. The climatic Reither Moor is directly adjacent to the educational trail, is an oasis of tranquility, and a textbook of natural history – with a strong focus on climate change and its visible effects. The Wildsee Promenade then continues with picturesque views towards Seefeld and provides detailed insights into biodiversity and nature conservation at the various shore stations. The largest protected area in the region, the Karwendel Nature Park, tells its story for free in Scharnitz – at the Nature Park Info Center as well as at the Museum Holzerhütte along with an adjacent adventure playground.
Cluttered but secretly
For all the adventurers who love the twilight, the Geisterklamm in the Leutascher Hoch valley offers an absolutely mystical experience. Not only because you encounter few other people even on beautiful sunny days, but especially because the light of the first and last hours of sunlight during the day bathes the gorge in what looks like liquid gold. Could this be where the legends of the Leutascher gold treasure in the Geisterklamm come from? By the way, you should definitely capture this extraordinary spectacle with some snapshots – otherwise, no one will believe you later about the gold treasure!
Adventure, but child-friendly
Especially for all little adventurers, the Seefeld region offers a wealth of free activities: From building damms and playgrounds along the Leutascher Ache to skillfully stacking Stoanmandl in the Scharnitzer Hinterautal. If you want to save your bike, simply stroll along the family experience route beside the turquoise Leutascher Ache, for example, just a little way on foot - in the Leutascher district of Weidach, there’s a playground by the river, and if you even walk all the way to the Gasthof Brücke, you can also visit the Ghost Gorge nearby. For small shortcuts and the return trip, there is always the option of taking the bus - which is also free with the guest card. In Scharnitz, the "Stoanmandl" line up at the Isar – a skill game in stacking stones, where you can play for several hours just to create some of the mightiest Mandln. And a little tip: at the latest, when the stone column is still standing on your next visit, you've already mastered the stacking technique like a true Tyrolean.
Art & Culture, but free
Art and Culture do not have to be expensive. The event calendar of the Seefeld region even offers numerous free events throughout the year: In addition to the Craft Fair in the historic pedestrian zone, classical summer concerts in the spa park, the Krampus run in Advent, or the Light Park at the Christmas Market Seefeld also offers contemporary art at no cost: With changing exhibitions, the KIS (Art in Seefeld) in the old fire station regularly fills up with new colors and forms. The artistic narrative already spans from Andy Warhol over David Lachapelle to Sarah Bogner and Pia Fries. Can't get any better? Yes: With a bit of luck, you can catch additional highlights at the KIS – curator tours, live music, or artist meetings, for example. So it's worth taking a look at the cultural and event calendar!
Television, but real
Imagine being able to enjoy a movie or a concert all to yourself – and without having to buy a ticket! It works simply on the high plateau: For the most beautiful natural spectacles, all you need here is some time and a good "spot." You don’t have to search long for suitable favorite spots, but particularly good options are the viewing platforms and sunning benches in the region: The viewing platforms at Kurblhang or on the high trail in Leutasch are perfect for a cozy nature picnic, and the wooden benches at the reservoir at Gschwandtkopf offer the best views at sunset. If you head to the viewing platform at Brunschkopf, you can also wander through the picturesque landscape idyll of Wildmoos. For those who don’t want to go quite as high, simply climb the Arena365 and take the WM Tower. After a relatively short ascent, you’ll find a real Swarovski binocular waiting there (just like at Brunschkopf) for even more free panoramic views.
Keyword Platzl with a view: In Mösern, a certain Albrecht Dürer once fell in love with the impressive Inntal view - and even immortalized it in a legendary self-portrait. Recently, the powerful Peace Bell was recast in Mösern, and along with that, they also looked for a new "Platzl" for it. From then on, its clear peal of peace (tone F/0, daily at 5 PM) will ring exactly at the spot where this Dürer once dreamed. And as picturesque as it is to sit here and gaze into the distance - fortunately, today a stylish self-portrait can also be created with a smartphone.
