FOR GOURMET HIKERS
Swooping & Savoring: The Top 5 Short Hikes with Snack Stops
Who says that steep peaks are necessary for mountain adventures? A short hike with a stop at a charming mountain hut can set your nerves dancing just as much! That has always been my experience when I was on the hiking trails in Seefeld, Leutasch, and the like. In this blog, you will find the top 5 easy hut hikes in the Seefeld region.
1. Circular hike Wildmoos & Lottensee hut
We begin with a very special, almost peculiar hike. Why peculiar? Well, you could theoretically call this hike the Three-Lakes Hike... but not always!
At the starting point is the Möserer See, one of the most beautiful spots on the entire Seefeld Plateau. Here, one can already gain culinary strength for the upcoming hike. From here, however, things get curious. After a cozy piece of forest, you will soon see the Lottensee. Or maybe not...? You read that right, the natural phenomenon Lottensee does not appear every year! Even experts are not sure what rules this aperiodic lake follows. And since a wonder rarely comes alone, there is also a second aperiodic lake on this hike.

In the natural paradise Wildmoos, there is the lake of the same name, Wildmoossee, which can also only be spotted with a bit of luck. But whether it’s 1, 2, or 3 lakes, the circular hike from Möserer See to Wildmoos is always a great idea. Not least because of the excellent culinary provisions and the numerous natural highlights along the way.
Duration: Approx. 02:30 h for the whole tour
Distance: 7.1 km / 250 m elevation gain
Highlights: Möserer See, Lottensee, Wildmoos
Rest stops: Möserer Seestub'n, Lottenseehütte

2nd Circular Hike to Bodenalm
The circular hike to Bodenalm proves that you don't have to travel far or climb a mountain to experience the real alpine feeling. Starting directly from the Seefeld train station, it’s a relaxed round trip with two really fantastic places to stop for refreshments. Why do I say fantastic? Well, as a big fan of homemade dishes, I feel like a young calf allowed to graze on an alpine meadow for the first time. The homemade cheese and the real barrel butter at the Bodenalm is for me the cow equivalent of a juicy pasture. Admittedly, that sounds a bit dramatic, but all the cheese lovers out there know exactly what I'm talking about.
However, the culinary specialties at Bodenalm don’t stop there.

The next stop on this circular hike is called: Triendlsäge. If you expect dust and wood shavings now, you are mistaken. For many decades, the former water saw has been a popular meeting point for hikers and gourmets alike. Not least because of the freshly caught trout from its own waters, Triendlsäge is not a stop for a quick snack that should be overlooked. At least, I have never been able to resist the magical allure of this place.
P.S.: Not only because it is beautifully nestled between river and forest do romantic feelings arise here. The Triendlsäge is also a popular wedding venue!
Duration: Approx. 02:30 h for the entire loop
Distance: 8.4 km / 180 meters in elevation
Highlights: Bodenalm, Triendlsäge, regional culinary delights
Rest opportunities: Bodenalm, Triendlsäge

3. Hike to Gaistalalm & Tillfussalm
At the latest by hike number 3, a certain trend becomes apparent: On the Seefelder Plateau, a mountain hut rarely appears alone. Especially not in the Almenparadies Gaistal. There's almost no path that doesn't lead to a rustic place to take a break. Additionally, the Gaistal - without exaggeration - is also a true natural paradise. The further you venture into this beautiful high valley, the clearer it becomes what I mean. Whether you are hiking or biking here, the mostly flat path reveals a new, spectacular view around every corner. The powerful mountain formations, the bubbling water, and the impressive landscape invite you to pause and soak in all the impressions. This can be done everywhere along the way, especially well on one of the many alpine pastures. With a bit of luck, you might also observe deer, chamois, and golden eagles here. They all call this place home, just like the numerous alpine pastures and their hosts.

One of the easier ways to reach two of these alpine pastures leads from the Salzbach parking lot to the Gaistalalm and then onwards to the Tillfussalm. Both operate their own alpine farming and both have a wonderful sun terrace. I don't want to say much more, you simply have to experience it yourself.
P.S.: The length and extent of a Gaistal adventure can be varied by combining tours to the Hämmermoosalm, to Lake Seeben and Lake Drachensee, and many other (natural) highlights.
Duration: Approx. 03:00 h
Distance: 9.7 km / 244 meters elevation
Highlights: Both alpine pastures and the Gaistal in general
Dining options: Gaistalalm, Tillfussalm

4th hike to the Katzenkopf hut
Cats are known to have seven lives. But wait, what does that have to do with hiking? Well, anyone who has ever been to the Katzenkopf in Leutasch knows what I'm talking about! Not only because of the name can you compare the seven lives of a cat with this special place. It's because there are (at least) seven ways to experience this summer paradise.
1. Hiking: The most important thing comes first! The cozy hiking trail to the Katzenkopf can be conquered in about an hour and leads idyllically through the Leutasch forests. 2. Chairlift: For those who want to take it easy, there is also the option to take the chairlift to the top during the summer at Katzenkopf. 3. Mountain Biking: Just how versatile the Katzenkopf really is becomes apparent with the biking options. You can conquer the path upwards on different routes with a mountain bike, but you can also transport the bike with the lift. Which brings us to point four...

4. Bikepark: Once you arrive at the top with your bike, there are many ways to conquer the Katzenkopf on the way down. The family-friendly bike park really has something for everyone. 5. Disc Golf: But before we indulge in the hut, there's one more special activity. Disc golf is a combination of golf and frisbee, and it's just as fun as it sounds! 6. Enjoying the View: Once you reach the top, 99% of Katzenkopf visitors do one thing first. They enjoy the unique view of the Leutaschtal and the surrounding mountains. A must for everyone on the hunt for the best views in the region. 7. Hut Visit: The best comes (of course) last: All the previously mentioned activities lead to a treat at the Katzenkopfhütte. Sun terrace + alpine hut + Tyrolean specialties = simply dreamy.
Duration: About 02:00 h
Distance: 5.2 km / 243 meters of elevation
Highlights: Bike park, disc golf, Katzenkopfhütte
Dining Options: Katzenkopfhütte

5th circular hiking trail around Gschwandtkopf
The fifth gourmet hike in the region could also be called "Seefeld essential". Over a little more than ten kilometers, you can see and experience (almost) everything that makes Seefeld what it is. After arriving by train, the first stop is through the historic town center, where numerous shops and dining options await. However, there is still enough time after the circular hike - who wants to carry shopping bags! Especially when the next stop is the famous Seekirchl. This very special backdrop must be absorbed with all the senses. If you already feel like taking a break here, you can quench your hunger and thirst at the usually sun-drenched Sportalm. Once that is done, the next steps lead directly over Olympic ground. On the way through the WM-Arena, you can practically feel the great successes of the past and the spirit of sports in the air.

On the trail of the next pleasures, one first follows the sunny path through the Möserer Valley and then turns towards Reith. If you get hungry along the way, you can take a snack stop with a great view at the Enzianhütte. If you still have the desire and strength in your legs, you can add an ascent to the Gschwandkopf summit. There, the Sonnenalm awaits with refreshments of all kinds. If you continue along the path, you will soon see the next highlight sparkling in the distance. This refers, of course, to the natural jewel called Wildsee. The inviting promenade, along with a forest section and squirrel sightings, is incredibly calming. To conclude, you return to the town center, where this circular hike and this blog find their end.
Duration: About 02:30 h
Distance: 10.3 km / 264 meters of elevation
Highlights: Pedestrian zone, Seekirchl, WM Arena, Wildsee,
Dining options: Sportalm, Sonnenalm, Enzianhütte
