SUMMER

The Hohe Munde - When the Mountain Calls

The Hohe Munde is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Seefeld region. Even from afar, it can be admired from (almost) all directions, and it always looks a little different - sometimes more gentle, sometimes more rugged, but always impressive. The Hohe Munde has not just one, but two summits. It is a wild mountain - and so is its ascent. For everyone with good fitness, sure-footedness, and a bit of head for heights, the Hohe Munde is a must!

A mountain, two peaks, several routes: The ascent of the Hohe Munde

I always fondly remember my ascent of the Hohe Munde. The views are particularly breathtaking and unforgettable! On one side lies the Inn Valley with the sparkling Inn, on the other side is the Gaistal, with the five towns of the Olympic region of Seefeld, and in the distance, you can even see the Zugspitze. Oh, and then the lovely stop at the Rauthütte! Hmm, those are beautiful memories!

Summit aspirants have several options for climbing the Hohe Munde. You can either hike from the Rauthütte to the two peaks, or choose the crossing. Both options can only be undertaken in stable, good weather (it shouldn't have rained the day before either, otherwise the rock gets wet and dangerous) and require good fitness. When crossing, it's also important to be able to climb a bit and not be afraid of heights – it can get "exposed" (note: steep terrain) here!

The Hohe Munde over the Rauthütte

This is the slightly easier but equally rewarding variant. The route leads through lovely forests and meadows to the Rauthütte. First, however, you leave the hut to the left and continue towards the Hohe Munde. Gradually, the trail becomes more challenging and "zacher" (German for: more strenuous). It becomes rocky and a bit laborious. But finally, there it is: the eastern peak! Also known as "Mundekopf," it offers a plateau and a summit cross, providing an opportunity for a small break. However, this is only the first, lower peak of the tour.

Those who want to fully summit the Hohe Munde go even further. A narrow path along the ridge leads to the west summit. Made it! You can also enjoy the unforgettable views from the west summit. On the descent (just like the ascent), you should not miss a stop at the Rauthütte! Your tired legs and hungry stomach will thank you!

Exceeding the High Munde

This variant is something for more experienced peak climbers. The tour is significantly longer and harder. It is especially rewarding not only because of the challenge but also because of the reward at Tillfussalm.

The ascent and descent over the partially secured passage is something for climbing enthusiasts: Along steel ropes and iron steps (approximately difficulty level 1), one climbs along the rock. A beautiful adventure that requires skill and good concentration. In the end, one knows: this mountain ascent is something truly special and very well-deserved!

The Tillfussalm in the beautiful Gaistal is an idyllic place to take a break. Not only is it rustic and cozy, but it also offers homemade alpine butter, Graukas cheese, and – shh, insider tip! – homemade buttermilk. Hmmm! What could be better after a long tour?!

One thing is for sure: There are many reasons to climb the Hohe Munde! You are rewarded with two summits in one day, unforgettable views, delicious food, and a good muscle ache. But the most important thing: The pride of having accomplished it! This memory will not be forgotten quickly.

So, let’s go to the Hohe Munde!
