SUMMER

20 times cool water around Seefeld

A dip in cool water is especially enjoyable when it's hot outside. Feeling like visiting lakes, rushing gorges, streams, or water parks? Here you'll find 20 water spots with a certain something. Whether after a tour or as a destination for a hike, biking trip, or an outing with friends or family. Join us on a journey through the water-rich high plateau around Seefeld in Tyrol:

Lake beaches
Möserer See: The popular forest idyll

The small, charming Möserer See is nestled beautifully in the forest. Even on the way to the lake, you can hear the laughter of children jumping into the water from the jetty. All around in the shady forest, young and old, families and couples are enjoying the forest and the lake – and relaxing. If you brought some hunger with you, you can stop by the rustic Möserer Seestub’n or let your gaze wander over the lake from the terrace there.

Wild Lake: The Varied One

It attracts sun lovers and water enthusiasts on hot days with two beach resorts and a Kneipp pool. The Kneipp basins along the shore are freely accessible and invite you to linger on one of the benches and let the surrounding nature take effect.

  • Idyllically located at the edge of the forest, the smaller pool comes with a sun walkway and the Café Sonja featuring a playground for the little ones.
  • The "Strandperle" at the front part of the natural lake is hard to miss. Swimmers can enjoy the lake and the heated outdoor pool, while the kids have fun in the children's pool or at the playground. Additionally, there is a varied program for older children, including beach volleyball, pedal boats, and SUP & yoga classes.

Feeling hungry? The Café-Restaurant Strandperle treats you to coffee & cake or delights from the exclusive kitchen.

Incidentally, the nature-protected Reither Moor is located on the southern shore of the lake. The picturesque walking path through the moor leads along the lake and over wooden walkways, where you can learn more about the rare animal and plant species like orchids, among others, on informational signs.

Wildmoos Lake & Lotten Lake: The Mysterious Natural Wonders

These two lakes are considered true natural wonders: No one knows exactly in which years the two lakes "appear" among the forests. Time and again, the meadows on the Wildmoos Plateau fill with water in spring, forming the Wildmoossee and the Lottensee. By the way: Swimming is allowed! We particularly recommend a visit at the beginning of the season when the lakes are especially large and fresh. Info: In 2022, the Lottensee & Wildmoossee are filled with only a little water – if you want to swim, it’s best to hike a short distance further to the Möserer See.

Weidach Lake: The Great Fish Riches

On a full 4.5 hectares, anglers can fish and fly fish to their heart's content at the Leutascher Weidachsee from April to October. Where Emperor Maximilian once fished, today there are excellent brook and rainbow trout as well as brook chars. The quality fish farming operation is privately run and even offers ice fishing in winter. The best part: No fishing license is required, and equipment can be rented on-site. Thus, the first fishing attempts become fun for the whole family.

Karwendel Bridge Waterfalls: The Roaring Ones

When the Karwendelbach rushes, the "Karwendelsteg" circular trail is not far away. The path leads through the impressive gorge between the three large Karwendel valleys, constantly going up and down until reaching the resting place with a view of the remarkable waterfall. On the way back, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Karwendel gorge and the surrounding mountains.

Eventful gorges
Ghost Gorge: The Adventurous

Especially in summer, the cool gorge invites you to a beautiful and adventurous hike. On the 800-meter-long steel path high above the rushing Leutascher Ache, breathtaking views of the spectacular gorge await you at a lofty height. There, in the mystical realm of the gorge spirit, he speaks bubbling from his roaring castle to the big and small visitors. Little explorers can learn all sorts of mysterious things from the realm of the gorge spirit at the stops with information boards!

Gleirschklamm: The Wild Romantic

Wild rock gorges, narrow bridges, and impressive steep paths – while walking through the original Gleirschklamm, you will easily be amazed! Here in the gorge, it is wonderfully shady when you follow the path along the partially exposed trail. Refreshing water awaits you all along the way at the bank of the roaring mountain stream. Or would you like to take a shower in the fine mist next to the waterfall?

If you look closely, you can spot fossilized shells beside deep pools in the streambed – and with a bit of luck, discover shy alpine salamanders, diving dragonflies, or rare orchids.

If you wish, you can extend the hike through the Gleirschklamm all the way to the Möslalm or Oberbrunnalm. A stop at the Scharnitzer Alm, which is located along the way, is also very worthwhile.

Isar Spring Karwendel: The Original

The Isar is a true Tyrolean: amidst the impressive mountain worlds of the Karwendel, clear Isar water bubbles from its springs. (E-)Bikers and hikers follow the turquoise-blue water to the Isar spring. Almost fairy-tale-like, the springs lie nestled in the forest and offer a genuine refreshment for weary feet with their water temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees. The tour is made perfect with a stop at the Kastenalm, which is only a few kilometers away from the Isar spring.

Especially adventurous souls can go rafting on the Isar and experience the impressive Karwendel from a perspective that few get to see on the journey from the spring to Scharnitz.

Igelsee: The Little Green One

Those who hike or ride an e-bike in the Almenparadies Gaistal can discover three small mountain lake gems and will also be accompanied by the turquoise-blue water of the Leutascher Ache. The first mountain lake in the bunch: the idyllic Igelsee. It is located between the Tillfussalm and the Ehrwalder Alm and invites for a little rest where one can enjoy the view of the green shimmering water.

Seebensee: The Photogenic

Further back in the Gaistal, a very special lake rewards the efforts of the ascent: The Seebensee is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps. When the summit of the Zugspitze is reflected in the clear waters of the lake, wonderfully kitschy photo opportunities are guaranteed. The cool, turquoise water and the imposing peaks all around attract many photographers and bikers to this extraordinarily beautiful spot. The Seebensee can be easily reached by (E-)Bike through the Gaistal. Just below the lake lies the Seebenalm, which invites visitors for a satisfying break with impressive views of the Zugspitze. Those who still have energy in their legs should definitely leave their bikes at the Seebensee and continue hiking to the Coburger Hütte, from where one can admire not only the Seebensee from above but also the Drachensee.

Dragon Lake: The Picturesque

The reward for hiking enthusiasts who reach the Coburger Hütte at 1917 m? Excellent hospitality and, of course, the impressive view of the Drachensee on one side and the Seebensee on the other. Blue water nestles in a mountain basin surrounded by mountain peaks and sheep frolicking in the meadow in front of it. The Drachensee should definitely be on the itinerary for every summer in the mountains. We recommend a combination as a Bike & Hike tour, as this saves you the strenuous descent from Seebensee. You can ride (E-)bike to Seebensee and continue on foot from there.

Leutascher Ache: The Rich Alms

Those who wander or cycle through the Gaistal are always accompanied by the cool waters of the Leutascher Ache. It is a picturesque mountain river that flows right through the Almenparadies. The path leads past a particularly large number of huts and alpine pastures (the name is not for nothing), all inviting to a delightful stop. In the turquoise-blue water, you can perfectly cool off your tired legs after hiking. There is even a Kneipp facility at the Salzbach parking lot at the entrance to the Gaistal for this purpose. The truly fresh bubbling of the Ache can also be heard as a soundtrack at Sound of Seefeld: the gentle sound of the flowing mountain stream is calming and relaxing.

Cold Water Lake Rosshütte: The Atmospheric Mirror-like Surface

If you hike at the Kaltwassersee, you will have a stunning view of the Hohe Munde and deep into the Gaistal all the way to the Ehrwalder Alm. Romantics and photography fans will be delighted when the surrounding mountains and clouds in the sky are reflected on the water's surface. The Kaltwassersee is easily accessible on foot or by bike, and the Hochegg Alm invites you to enjoy a delicious meal on the sun terrace. Unfortunately, swimming is not allowed in the lake, but the view is absolutely worth it!

Storage Lake Gschwandtkopf: The insider tip

Just a short climb from Seefeld, Reith and Mösern lies the beautiful Gschwandtkopf Reservoir. From Seefeld it’s only about 220 meters of elevation and approximately half an hour to the newly created reservoir, and it’s even faster by bike. If desired, you can also use the Gschwandtkopf lift as an ascent aid. The short effort is worth it: The lake offers a unique view of the Hohe Munde and all the way down into the Inn Valley. On the way down, you can enjoy the views over Seefeld and the high plateau. Most of the time, you only encounter a few other hikers, so the lake is still a real insider tip. Swimming in the lake is unfortunately not allowed, but the view is absolutely worth it! Just a few minutes from the lake lies the Sonnenalm, which truly lives up to its name and awaits hikers and bikers with a scenic sun terrace.

3 Middle Forest Lakes: The Neighbors

Really borderline: Directly behind the border at Scharnitz lies Mittenwald, where the idyllic lakes Lautersee, Ferchensee and Geroldsee can be found. This is a perfect opportunity for a trip or even a lake cycling tour to the Mittenwald lake neighbors.

The Olympia Sports & Congress Center

In Seefeld and Leutasch, two large adventure pools await water lovers or sauna enthusiasts, whether it's sunny, rainy, or snowy.

The Olympiabad directly in Seefeld, overlooking the Seefeld Seekirchl, offers a lot of variety and well-tempered bathing fun with its slide paradise. Several pools, water loungers, a 32-degree warm outdoor pool, a 25-meter pool, a rock island, a children's area, a slide paradise – and plenty of lounging space indoors and on the sunny sunbathing lawn.

Experience World Alpine Spa in Leutasch

The impressive mountains of the Leutaschtal form the backdrop of the Alpenbad. Adults relax in the rustic sauna world while families enjoy the heated indoor and outdoor pools. Outside, there is also a children's play tower, flying fox, and swings.
