SUMMER
With the excavator to the Nordic World Championship 2019
"Hand in Hand – let’s celebrate a nordic ski festival" is the motto of the Seefeld region for the FIS Nordic Ski World Championship 2019 from the very first hour. Being a host for a world championship for the second time means joy paired with goosebumps, commitment and creativity, expertise and planning, passion, perfectionism, and a vision, as well as an immense sense of unity. It’s an incredible feeling to be close to the action.
With full vigor and anticipation, the first planned projects for the spectacular major event, the Nordic World Championships 2019, began this summer. On August 1st, heavy excavators rolled in for the clearing work: the Norwegian track architect Hermod Bjorkestal is writing a piece of history with a sustainably tailored track concept for Seefeld, simultaneously integrating a large part of the trails that were already used during the Olympic Games in 1976. All in accordance with the FIS regulations and the requirements of 10 m for ascents and flat terrain as well as 7 m for descents respectively.
Casion Arena – Center of the World Cup 2019
The area around the Casino Arena, as the central point of the Nordic Ski Championships 2019, is getting a new shine: For the first time, a completely new design allows for an unobstructed view of the entire area, including the landmark "the Seekirchl". The two old existing tubes (cross-country skiing underpasses) on the access road to the Casino Arena have been removed, and a new access has been created to make the area as usable as possible for the future stadium and ski slopes. The new tunnel allows for a direct finish line that can be viewed from all sides.
Directly on the L36 country road is the second, large construction site. There, work is being done on the connection of the cross-country skiing trails north-south over a cross-country skiing bridge with a newly constructed tunnel for road traffic. The top principle of construction is careful, sustainable handling of nature and all resources throughout the high plateau. Already this winter, all cross-country skiing enthusiasts can get a glimpse of what it means to ski on the trails of the future world champions.
Everything on track – Reconstruction of Seefeld Station
On September 30th, the contract for the renovation of the WM railway station in Seefeld was signed. The Seefeld station is a protected monument and will therefore not be significantly altered in its outer core, but it will shine in a new look. Renovations are planned, including internal restructuring, space for encounters, light-filled entrances and exits, passenger elevators, canopies, and measures for people with mobility and visual impairments. The centerpiece will be the new forecourt, which will be a completely car-free zone: arriving right in the midst of the action. The gateway to the Seefeld region will live up to its name and provide another highlight for all residents and guests of the region.
