On glowing runners - the most beautiful toboggan runs in the Region Seefeld - Tirols Hochplateau
The traditional sport of tobogganing is probably as old as we Tyroleans ourselves. In the past, wooden and horn sledges were often the only means of transport in steep terrain, but today winter tobogganing is once again enjoying increasing popularity as a versatile and inexpensive alternative to the slopes. In the Seefeld region, too, natural toboggan runs with a strong character offer connoisseurs and amateur athletes numerous opportunities to experience the fun sport of tobogganing up close. There are plenty of good reasons to do so, even demanding climbs are rewarded at the top by excellent huts and breathtaking views, after which varied descents through picturesque mountain landscapes and deep snow-covered winter forests await. We have searched for the most beautiful toboggan runs in the region - and found them.
Sledges in Tyrolean: Rodl, Rutschblattl & Zipflbob
Proper tobogganing requires the right equipment, because every mountain sport naturally also involves dangers. The basic equipment therefore includes a helmet, gloves and your (favorite) hot drink in an insulated bottle, but real tobogganing specialists also like to carry a headlamp, snow chains (for boots) and ski goggles. The choice of the right toboggan then depends on driving style and experience: On the practice slope, a small plastic plate is often enough (traditionally a "Rutschblattl"), with a handle you go further down (traditionally a "Zipflbob"), only with the classic Holzbock or the flat Rennrod(e)l you then venture onto one of the beautiful natural toboggan runs in the region.
How to Rodel
Healthy self-assessment ensures safety on the way up and down, respect and caution are a matter of course. The ascent takes place in orderly single file on the outer edge of the toboggan run, because breakneck evasive maneuvers disrupt the descent as well as the ascent. Even darkness is never a test of courage - where toboggan runs are unlit in the evening, leave early enough, leave in good time or turn back if necessary. By the way, you can practice the correct handling and tobogganing technique without any problems on the two clearly laid out toboggan slopes on the Seefeld Pfarrhügel. For all descents, the information offices of the Seefeld region and the current snow report provide information in advance on the current snow conditions and any route closures.
For connoisseurs: lift comfort at the cat's head
The Katzenkopf toboggan run is the only downhill run in the Seefeld region that facilitates the ascent via mountain railroad. Toboggans can be rented at the valley station for the duration of the tobogganing fun if required, the ascent and the descent are family and child friendly and a stop at the Katzenkopf Hütte is always a delicious recommendation.
Argument: Lift
Ascent: 40 minutes from the valley station or via lift
Descent: 2.5 kilometers with 12% gradient over 250 meters altitude difference
Demand: family and child friendly
Night tobogganing: Tuesdays from 19:00 to 21:30 hrs.
For friends & families: Hämmermoosalm
From the last parking lot in the picturesque Gaistal, almost all paths lead to the Hämmermoosalm. Depending on which one you choose, the ascent ranges from leisurely to sporty and takes between 20 and 40 minutes through wildly romantic forest areas. On the rustic Hämmermoosalm you sometimes meet the harp player Albert, the ascent can also be done by horse-drawn sleigh on request.
Argument: Very easy to reach, delicious cuisine
Ascent: 20-40 minutes from the parking lot in Gaistal or via horse-drawn sleigh
Descent: two kilometers over 167 meters of altitude
Demand: perfect for beginners and families
For gourmets: Rauthhütte toboggan run
The natural toboggan run Rauthhütte is one of the most beautiful and challenging routes in the Seefeld region. The ascent is biting, the descent racy and the culinary at the Rauthhütte is even recommended by the French gourmet guide Gault&Millau. For particularly sociable evenings, there are plenty of places to sleep at the top, and pets are also welcome in the traditional Ofenstube by the crackling fireplace.
Argument: recommended by Gault&Millau
Ascent: 80 minutes from the parking lot Rauthhütte in Moos
Descent: three kilometers over 420 meters of altitude
Demand: moderately difficult to sporty
For the more demanding: natural toboggan run Wettersteinhütte
The natural toboggan run from the Wettersteinhütte can really do it all: wide trails, narrow forest passages, impressive landscape runs and biting steep sections. However, you first have to earn the delicious refreshment stop and the winding descent, because the ascent to the Wettersteinhütte makes you sweat quite a bit in places. If you can't get enough of the sweeping view of the Wetterstein mountains, you can simply spend the night in the "Kuschlhitte" and enjoy breakfast with a sunrise at 1717 meters above sea level.
Argument: Kaiserschmarren, Rippelen and blue gentian brandy
Ascent: 100 minutes from the Stupfer parking lot
Descent: three kilometers over 577 meters altitude difference
Demand: sporty and varied
For self-catering: Tips without stopover
Those looking for peace and quiet while tobogganing will also find it in the Seefeld region: The toboggan run at the Kreidegraben is a hardly frequented insider tip, here you rarely meet other tobogganing enthusiasts in Scharnitz. If you are looking for a challenge without a companion, you will also find it at Hoher Sattel. At all these places you are alone with yourself and nature, also at the summit a peaceful "Sonnenplatzl" awaits self-supporters instead of well-attended hut fun. After a hearty panoramic picnic, you can ride the toboggan back to the valley in a deeply relaxed manner. If you like, you can go up again right away, or on the way home you can be pampered in an excellent wellness facility in the Seefeld region.
