Winter idyll Wildmoos: The place between places
The Wildmoos Landscape Protection Area is situated, surrounded by untouched nature and a breathtaking mountain panorama, just a little between worlds. A wonderland between Seefeld and Mösern with exciting natural phenomena, magnificent views, and idyllic lakes.
Wildmoos is a true paradise for everyone who enjoys being in nature and is perfect for absolutely anyone. Strollers, (long-distance) hikers, and cross-country skiers, culinary and other connoisseurs. For many, the declared goal is the Wildmoosalm, a natural idyll unmatched in its beauty. From crystal-clear mountain water to hearty home cooking, Tirol is at home here, surrounded by green moss and lush alpine herbs in summer, and in winter an entry and/or exit point for walks on foot, with snowshoes, or on skis. The cross-country skiing trail leads directly past the charming and rustic alpine hut. If you take the path on foot – it takes about 40 minutes from the center of Seefeld – it gently winds up through the forest; those who prefer can leisurely and romantically arrive by horse-drawn carriage. Additionally, the Wildmoosbus also runs from Seefeld to the alpine lodge.
A fairy-tale mystery
Around the Wildmoosalm, when not covered by lush snow blankets, fresh alpine herb meadows spread out, and spectacular panoramas open the eyes and heart alike. Not far from the hut, a true natural phenomenon occurs from time to time with the Lotten and Wildmoos lakes. Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, two mountain lakes suddenly form amidst meadows, larch, and birch forests, only to disappear just as quickly as they came. This aperiodically occurring natural wonder is likely due to a complex interplay of spring precipitation and snowmelt water in underground karst systems. When the thaw begins in spring, the underground vessels (karsts) fill with water, causing overflow that floods the meadow hollows, forming lakes that often disappear after just a few weeks. In some years, the water level continues to rise due to underground springs even after the snow melt – an impressive natural spectacle, the exact causes of which remain a mystery to this day.

The spectacle can be best observed from the Lottenseehütte, which is about a 40-minute walk from the Wildmoosalm or can be reached in about the same time from the other side, that is from Mösern. Since 1949, the Lottensee has been owned by the Kluckner family. The charming attached snack station was built in 1968 by Grandpa Josef and has since become a popular year-round destination for pleasure hikers, gourmets, (e-)bikers, and cross-country skiers. During the deep snowy winter months, a cross-country ski trail also runs directly past here, winding around the sparkling Lottensee and through the wild romantic winter landscape.
Many paths lead to Wildmoos
Wildmoos can be explored in many different ways. In small pieces, always new, always different, or all at once in its entirety. The entire Wildmoos Circuit takes you through idyllic winter landscapes and takes about three and a half lovely hiking hours. The snow-covered panoramic loop around the centrally located Brunschkopf passes several lakes and three huts to delight all your senses. The enchanting winter hike stretches eleven kilometers with no significant climbs through deep snowy forests that repeatedly open up to stunning vistas.

Wild Moss in the Seefeld Region in Winter
Those coming by car can park directly at the small Möserer See Parking (Note: limited availability) and then walk a short distance along the gravel path to the starting point at the Möserer See. A cozy round around the snowy forest lake marks the beginning of the actual hike, rewarding hikers with a first rest on the sun terrace of the Möserer Seestub’n. With a romantic view of the lake, it's advisable to enjoy a cup of mulled wine,Jagatee, or punch here, which warms the body from within and equally soothes the soul. Homemade cakes and strudel variations are also available. Afterwards, strengthened well, you return to the intersection and turn left onto the hiking path towards Wildmoosalm. Then, you stroll comfortably through the Lehenwald above the snowy Möserer Mähder (mountain meadows). Accompanied by a magnificent view over Seefeld and the Gschwandtkopf, the hiking trail takes a wide loop until it briefly switches to the trafficked winter road just before Wildmoosalm.
Delicious delicacies in the snow
The small round at the Alm can already be noted for a digestible walk, as the Wildmoosalm tempts with delicious Tyrolean hut specialties from in-house production: from cheese dumplings to "Gröstl" with coleslaw to Kaiserschmarrn, even homemade doughnuts delight the palate and stomach. After that, it continues pleasantly to Lottensee, with a gentle slope, the wide hiking path goes almost by itself. At the fork towards the holiday home at Wildmoossee, keep left and pass through the forest past the two lakes, if they happen to show themselves. Finally, the Lottenseehütte invites you to take a little break and enjoy a digestif - optionally coffee - and a second dessert in the cozy parlor.

Long-Distance Hiking Stage 3 Winter Landscape
Rewarding you with the most panoramic section of the snowy lakes circuit, the Pirschsteig offers impressive views of the Inn Valley and winter mountain backdrops on the entire return journey, slightly above the roadway. In Mösern, the forest path merges into the Broch path and continues in a straight line until it reaches the starting point at Lake Möser. Panorama, idyll, natural spectacle, movement, relaxation, culinary delights... Winter hiking heart, what more do you want?
